radar detectors
how important (if at all) is where on my dash or windshield the radar's positioned?

Re: radar detectors
well, i dont know how important it is with regards to performance...
but here in Virginia, they are illegal, so if youre traveling through from another state where they are legal, you arent allowed to have them near a power source (and from my understanding, that pretty much means they have to be out of sight.) be sure to check the laws on radar detectors where you live (if you havent already). sorry, that probably wasnt what you were looking for.

it picks up microwaves ....... so it needs to have a clear line of sight - meaning not behind any metal. Right in front of the rear view mirror is a good place for a custom install.

Re: radar detectors
well the truth is i wanna get it off the glass. am i going to lose any reasonable measure of performance by velcroing it to the dash somewhere? i wanted to put it on the driver's side dash

as long as it has a clear line of sight to the radar, you won'yt have any problems

The Ontario fine was 320 dollars. (in 1997) I was pulled over for a brake light out, and the officer actually took it from me right there on the spot and handed me the ticket.
Keep in mind, radar detectors are USELESS against the hand-held laser pointers used by (some) police in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. By the time your detector, detects it ... you've already been tagged. Here's a tip. If you're in Ontario, and the cop with the laser gun is on a motor cycle ... you're screwed. They are guaranteed to be the updated models. If the cop is on traffic and is a dash mounted unit ... cross your fingers. you got a chance ![]() *the New ones look like an all white 7-11 big gulp with the lid pointed at you and a really thick curly black cord that goes to some powered unit on the saddle bags of the cop cycle.* Will dig up a link to this great site I found about buying good detectors and how they work against different technology. This Info was aquired the hard way. |
