Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

Not be be an ass or anything, but make up 'yer mind on whatcha gonna do. I thought you were building a B18 motor? Or do you have a car at all? Just be honest with us - nobody's gonna yell at you for not being sure what you want to do but jumping around with threads that conflict with each other is a bad idea (and confusing).

As for the Del Sol, we can answer your questions regarding that but you're better off asking about the MR-2 in the Toyota forum and then make a decision from there.

Peace.

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

well....you've picked 2 cars with pretty awsome handeling...only one has the mid engine...better weight ratio...BUT..the sol has awsome handeling, and with strut bars and a lil more power..it would be awsome....both cars have been compared with a ferrari's handeling capability in car and driver... the mr2 turbo actually has pretty good power, and the fact that its rear wheel drive makes it a lil more fun to drive. its inshurance will be higher than the sol cause it only has two seats and it is mid engine...it would be hard to choose...but i like my mid engine..so I would go with the mr2

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

doesn't the del sol have 2 seats just like the mr2?
another reason why the mr2 also will have higher insurance is its turbo...
but since i like rwd more than fwd, i'd go with the mr2

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

how many times am I gonna have to tell you how to spell MY? jfwy... kinda... as an English dork that grates on my nerves, but whatever.

Like Jon said, you really need to decide what you want... I think we're all starting to tire of your posts about this vs that. We're all biased towards sols cause we have them and we love them. If you want hard numbers, look up sols and other cars in Consumer Reports, and there's PLENTY of tests that have been done on the sol.. Quite a few people took quite an interest in the freakish lil car when it was released in 92/93. I have a Car and Driver with the sol as the featured car/cover car. Just research it. Take an afternoon, go to google and the team Sol international site, and study up. How do you think the rest of us learned? There's also forums for just about every car made, many of them on this site. Go over there and find out people's opinions about the other cars you're thinking about. Then weigh the two out and make your move. But pleeeease stop with the this vs that. Seriously..

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

It is a tough choice. one of my best friends had an MR2, and I drove that thing whenever I got the chance. It was lots of fun. However, the Sol has been a dream car for me for about 4 years, and I've owned one for a little over 1 year now. I've hand plenty of time to compared both cars in person. As far as drivability, Del Sol all the way. Get caught in a bad rain storm with an MR2, and you'd better be a damn good driver!! As far as better acceleration stock, the MR2 is on top. Both cars are lots of fun, but before committing to ANY car, you should always consider what you want to do to it, and what you want out of it. Good luck with your decision....you'll need it.

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

I worked for toyota for 4 years, so needless to say i am a big toyota fan after working on them for 4 years...but I drive a del sol..the Mr2 is a great car with alot of poss. it is a mid engine and rwd and it drives like a " big go kart " which is always fun. But the del sol is gonna be just as sporty and just as reliable. If you do all your own tuning and maint. work then the del sol is gonna eb alot easier for you because the Mr2 being mid engine is a pain to work on !!!!!!!!! It all comes down to what you plan to do with the car ??? minor mods or are you looking for a nasty fully built street machine ? depending on your needs depends on which way we steer you

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

oh and the Mr2 is gonna come with the 3sgte plant while the Sol is more than likely gonna come with the D16 ....So you would already starting off ahead performance wise with the Mr2 :/

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

kmak,
I like your style as far as options in cars, you're looking at two of my favorites (within the reachable price range) The MR2 is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Look at buying a non-turbo, and swapping. Just have a pro do it, you dont wanna try to work in that mid bay. You will find that non turbo mr2s are a lot cheaper and the insurance will like the no-turbo aspect as well. Just make sure its MKII Also, I don't know what kind of driving (daily, track, etc) you are thinking, but consider the cargo area between the mr2 and the sol, you will find a lot more in a sol.

Couldn't you just turbo charge the bigger 2.2l engine? Wouldn't you have more power and less cost? Just wondering...

Re: del sol vtech or mr2 turbo

i havent found a turbo kit for a non-turbo mr2, im sure you could custom build one, but the swappable motor is not very expensive, the engine is a 3SGTE I believe. Available here http://www.totaljdm.com/
