Question RPO#MD8 700R4 trans torque limit

I am planning to increase my enigne torque to ~550ftlbs. I believe that my transmission may be the weakest link in the drivetrain. Does anyone know how much torque the 700R4 will handle or where to get that kind of information? Has anyone used this trans behind a motor with this kind of torque?

Re: RPO#MD8 700R4 trans torque limit

If you want a 700r4 that will hold up to that amount of torque there are 2 very good options. One is Bowtie overdrives at www.700r4.com and www.transmissioncenter.net. They make a raptor 700r4 that will hold up. The price is kinda high but worth it, my brother has one in his 85 chevy 2wd with a 383 pushing about 450hp and 475lbs running a 4.10 rear end and the tranny is holding up very well.
