Re: poor gas mileage

I suggest using the original size tires and rims for your truck. I just bought my first truck a 2001 Sierra K1500. The vehicles are the same just the nameplate is different. You might want to also remove the tailgate and install a net or louvered plate in place of the gate. Something I learned with the vortec V8.....keep your feet out if the injectors. I am getting 16 around town and 18 on a run.

Re: poor gas mileage

I've added all kinds of stuff to my truck, and I still get around 16-17, even on a late night 90+mph run to the FD or a fire. I also have oversized tires though, I can't find anyone that wants to trade some 285's for some factory 265's.

Re: poor gas mileage

I have a much older truck, 1990 silverado 4x4 w/ a 350. I pull an 18foot openbow boat all the time.
I was getting 17mpg and installed a Tornado I think its called. (small tin propeller looking device). I consistantly get 19+ pulling the boat. PEP BOYS has them for 60.00.

Re: poor gas mileage

The Tornado Doesnt work in our newer Silverado's in an earlier thread we discussed how our intake tubes already have a heat riser that acts like the Tornado, I personally used one for a couple of weeks and thought it was a peice of crap, I now have a K&N FIPK system instead of the stock Air Box Assembly and noticed better gas milage and increased Power.

Re: poor gas mileage

Get a Geo...lol sorry....I would say to get a performance chip, from what Ive seen it helps out gas mileage, the other thing for a truck that always helped my old truck is to keep the tailgate down or get a net.

Tail gates

There was a test just released proving this is fiction with the tailgate down theory. The only real fix is a tonneau proven to increase gas milage up to 10%. Put the tail gate down at the football games

Re: poor gas mileage

With a Jacobs ignition, Gibson muffler, 3" tailpipe plus K & N filter (not FIPK kit) and Castrol 10W-30 Syntec oil I was still getting 15 mpg at 70 mph w/cruise control on at 350,000 original engine miles. Biggest factor is how you drive, take it easy and use your cruise.

Is there a website with the results of that test? I have always got slightly better mileage with the tailgate down, less than 1 MPG, but better none the less.
