Starter stuck on...

Ok...have an 87 escort and had to replace the solenoid on the inner fender. It worked great for two days....and then all of the sudden the starter motor stuck on and couldn't get the car from not trying to start...had to unhook the battery. Even with the ignition turned off, if you add battery power, the starter motor starts turning the car over, car starts but starter wont stop....

Any ideas???

Re: Starter stuck on...

Sounds like you have a bad solenoid. You see when you apply power to the little terminal of the solenoid the solenoid opens up and allows power to run from your battery to the starter. It sounds like maybe your solenoid is shorting and causing the switch to be always closed and always allowing power to your starter. This is my guess. You could have a bad ignition switch - perhaps, but more likely that solenoid. Take the wire off of the solenoid, connect your battery again and see if your car wants to start again. If it does then replace your solenoid again, if it doesn't then I would look at your ignition switch. Good luck!

Sorry i made a mistake. The solenoid should close when power is applied not open.
