Re: Oil Recommendations

10w30 high mileage is an excellent choice,it has stuff in it to prevent leaks and condition gaskets and seals, all name brands are good enough...

Yeah 10w30 should be a good wieght. Look to make sure it is SL rated or higher. (Future standards SM,SN,etc.)-small round seal in the back of the bottle. This shows it meets all the latest standards. I have had good experience with Valvoline Max-Life with higher mileage cars. Oil stays cleaner, longer, and doesn't break down or "disappear" after 3,000 miles. I used to be a quart low after 3,000, now I average 1/2 quart. My car has 175,000 on it and still is running great. Knock wood! I have been using Max-Life since 75,000.

Re: Oil Recommendations

I agree with you fellas, use what is recommended (10w-30).

I have a tendancy to say away from Castrol, but to be honest, if you are diligent in changing the oil every 3000-4000 miles (5000-5500km for me), then you will be fine.

Cool Oil Weight

Hello Hard Timer:

I have a 1995 like yourself, its read and I call her the Red Rocket or the beast. More the beast at $ 2.23 per gallon for premium gas in California.

I live in Northern California, used to live in Southern California, but all the roads in California are for shit, stock up brake rotors, Ebay is a good placeto buy Aurora spare parts. Our driving demandsin California are tough on a car from the Cold and Rain of San Francisco to the 90 degee heat of the 91 freeway in Anaheim.

Listen 10-30 Chevron I have used for years with good results, change oil over 3,000 to 4,000 miles.

No matter what oil you put in,This beast leaks, that is the design of the Norstar Engine. I gave up fjxing the seals.

Every 12,500 miles I do transmission service,I drop and change filter every 25,000 miles a full flush including replacing the filter

Once a year or 25,000 miles radiator service
Drain and flush brake lines and change brake fluid once a year.
Power sterring pump, once a year or at $ 25,000.00

With 127,000 miles car runs great and tear up road on the grapevine when I come to Southern California.

Good luck with your Aurora, its better than some German or Japanese
luxary car, the style of the Aurora is different

I have a ’95 with about 115K on it now (original owner). I change the oil when the D.I.C. indicates that I’m at 10% oil life. While I’m not a conspiracy theorist I always find it interesting when the oil advertisers or oil-change outlets suggests changing the oil every 3000 miles. I have used Penzoil 10W-30 in all my vehicles and have never had any internal engine problems. I am now using the Penzoil’s higher mileage 10W-30 product in my Aurora. Not sure if it offers any real advantage or not (I’m probably falling for their marketing). I have a very minor oil leak at the drain plug (something I could easily remedy) but that’s it for leaks.
