ok im in a frenzied hunt for a 4th gen....and i located a nice crappy std hatch, either 88 or 89...i went to the dealership on sunday so of course there was nobody there. Well i was planning on calling the place ("All Pro Auto" hah hah) today to get the scoop on that hatch, buuttttt....they had their fuckign phone line disconnected! So what would yous guys take on this dealership? worth the effort? Could i possibly offer them the price of their next phone bill for the hatch? ( IM KIDDING)

no really if they can pay there bills and such they arn't work working with. Yes they could be hella hard up for cash but then they'll do anything to sell somthing probbly EG not tell you the motors about to blow or trannys shot etc want cash up front then tell you to never come back. I say dig round for a 4g pass that place up.

ace is right ... anywhere that has their phone disconnected has to be kinda ghetto ... i would pass that place up big time.


Try checking craigslist for your area, local papers, and have your friends keep an eye out for signs on cars.

Damn man you guys dont understand though....round here (NC) a 4th gen is as rare as...as...as....the yankee lookin for one! hah hah...but really I understand that it may turn out to be a shitter, but consider my VERY short-term plans (i have money set aside and a school shop at my disposal, so like within a week or 2 of purchase) of putting in a d16a along with a 5 speed si trans. Dont get me wrong, im not argueing the fact that this place is a shithole, but take into consideration what im doing in the near future.

i know of a 4g for sale in hickory.....guys got a hatch but the motor n tranny is out and i beleive he was askin 800. theres a few here in winston too.

Hey one thing you might want to think about. Great your gonna be putting in a newer motor and tranny. but what about the body of the car, the suspention, the frame? There are a lot of things to concider. I had a 87 rex that i bought at a place like your looking at. payed 900 bones and it ran but that was about it. in less than a year the frame in the back right by the rear axle snapped in half. talk about a bad ride. But on the other hand i street raced that poor little rex with a cracked head and still made it home. your choice but i would hunt around some more.

91 is showing what we didnt say. Motor and tranny are two major points, but only two of the many. If you ask how many points a dealership does for its inspection on pre-owned certified cars, they can get as high as 100+ points.

There is alot more to a car then then those two points. How much do you think its gonna cost to fix frame damage? Or how about a mystery electrical short? Nothing is so rare that you have to take the bottom of the barrel.

In in johnston county...30 minutes east of raleigh. Ive only seen 2 or 3 for sale at reasonable prices...any of you guys seen decent ones for <1k?

You guys brought up some good points. Ive read that haynes manual (i think it was haynes) on buying used cars and how to check for frame damage. I actually owned a 92 vx hatch for about 2 weeks but the frame was so bad (collision damage) i jsut got it running and resold it. I mean im not going to lay down the bucks unless me or my dad gets to test drive it and inspect it ourselves. But yes all of those things brought up were valid points of concern. Thanks.

alex.... i'm from greensboro,NC my buddy has a 91 red hatch SI with ZC swap lowered blah blah blah... i'm not sure how much he's wanting but i may be able to get pics and post them if you're interested in one.... i'll find out the price and let you know...

If the hatch is cheap and you plan on doing an engine swap BUY IT my buddy bought a 95 ex 4d for $500 cause the engine was bad... we found a jdm sohc vtec for $300 so for $800 he's gonna have a nice car in about a week. gotta think about those kinda things

well if anyone else wants to look at it... it's a 90 SI red w/ zc engine and si tranny. sunroof, cd player, acura wheel/ new tires, racing seats, lowered with coilovers i've got some crappy pics i took if anyone wants them he wants $3000. it runs 10. in the 1/8th. if you put a lighter flywheel on it i'm sure lower times are possible..

WELL an update....hah haH my dad ran by the place today....and its quite obvious that this place just had something go down. Padlocks on the doors, boarded up windows, bags of trash everywhere, and one big ass pitbull hah hah. Plus the car was a fucking wreck structurally (my dad and i studied this shit together ha hah)

SOOO im onto the hunt for another 4th gen. Any NC guys plz keep your eyes open for a poor little punk...hah hah thanks
