Air bag question in a 01 i think it was def.

Hi, My sister was in an accdent yesterday and she has a 01 elantra and the passenger airbag deployed but it deployed out toward the windsheild and toatly busted the winshield out i thought it was to deploy to the passenger?

The passenger had his seatbelt on and he hit his head on the rear a veiw mear if the airbag owuld have went to the seat this owuld have not happened would have it???

Also from what her car dudtainded the damage it did i wouldnt considere getting one of these i would give it a crash rating of 3 out of 10. She was doing about 25-30 when it happend. she hit a suv that puled out in front oif her .

I will get photos of both of the cars that was in the accdent up as soon as she gives them to me so you can see why i say dont buy one.

she wants to know why that airbag deployed like that?????

theres nothing wrong with your sisters elantra. airbags damaging the windshield is nothing new either. the ford focus also damages the windsheild when the passenger airbags deploys. in a serious accident, a broken windshield is nothing compared to serious injuries. and the your sister's elantra did a good job preventing injuries.

Ok like i said i never seen any airbag deploy like that so i wasnt sure.
