Question Starting

'95 S-10 ZR2, w/163000 miles. New battery and rebuilt alternator. Had those and the starter tested. Was told they are all good. Sometimes when restarting after a drive, it barely cranks over. Have had to jump start twice last week. This morning, it started fine, but while driving to work, the voltmeter on the dash read barely above 12V. Yesterday it read about 14-15V. Any thoughts? TIA

Check the cables and connections. If it didnt start while hot I would suspect the starter/solenoid. (spell check) Bt if your not charging properly you might have the alternator problem. Or maybe both.

Anything change yet? Still hard to start when hot? Still getting different volt meter readings?

I agree with your thought on the starter/solenoid, even thought the starter supposedly checked out OK. I checked and cleaned the battery connections, even though they looked very good. Couriously, it has been OK since then The starter is very hard to get at. The manual instructions say to raise the motor and trans. to remove it. May have to take it to another shop to verify the first diagnosis if the problem continues. Dash voltage gauge seems to have settled down. It's a mystery. I do carry a portable starter now. Thanks for the reply.
