Speaking of Harmonic Balancers...

I had the honor of spending the day under the hood of my XJ yesterday. My original intent was to replace the squawking serpentine belt, but upon further inspection, I found the harmonic balancer had begun to separate. The pulley section had moved out almost 1/4 inch from the hub toward the front of the vehicle. Yikes! I sure am thankful I found it before it launched itself into the radiator.

I guess I can't complain - it had over 238K on it...

Next project - replace the original piece of sh*t motor mounts.

Re: Speaking of Harmonic Balancers...

my harmonic balancer on my 90 4.0 had seperated also and i am glad that i found it too. the reason i knew this was because it was hitting the pulley driven fan. those things are fairly hard to replace

Re: Speaking of Harmonic Balancers...

My 91 Cherokee Harmonic Ballancer also separated. Aquick trip to the junk yard fixed it up with a replacement.
