Thinkin about buying a Talon
Well, Its time for school in the fall. And I need to sell the car I have now and get something a bit more reliable. I hate to sell it I poured my heart and sould into my MR2. But I gotta.
Anyway. I need something I can drive all year round. And maybe later down the road do some modifications. Some people told me about the 1st gen talon. How reliable are these. How easy are parts to find. Some of the things that tend to go wrong with the talon? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Thinkin about buying a Talon
I have had my 92 talon since 1996 and besides regular maintenance I had to replace one wheel bearing. My car, garaged now since I am doing a turbo conversion, has been very reliable. You can also find a ton of aftermarket and oem parts on ebay.

Re: Thinkin about buying a Talon
Tsi AWD all the way!!!(extremely fun during winter as well)
I'm sure you can find some 2nd gens as cheap as 1st gens, both are as reliable as the others, most common problems with these cars are rough idling(timing belt issue), transmission issues and sometimes you can get turbo leak. Make sure to find out the history of the car before to see if your not getting suckered into something that will require a lot more spending after buying it. www.dsmtrader.com is the place to go to find yourself your next talon/eclipse. Also www.autotrader.com can help. |

Re: Thinkin about buying a Talon
I have a 93 talon tsi, all wheel drive turbo, and its a lot of fun to drive but it has always had some tranny problems. This is very common with the awd models. I had the tranny fully rebuilt, and first gear was replaced, but its still pops out of first gear sometimes. and its clunky. all the awd transmitions are going to be at least clunky if they aren't set up exactly right. another big problem that Dsm's have is crank walk. I heard that its probably the worst in 95's
