302 and 351W headers? are they the same?

title basically says it all, i have custom headers made for a 302, but im swapping to a 1986 351W soon, i was wondering if my headers will bolt right up to my 351W, as i dont want to make new custom headers...

They will bolt up yes, but wont fit the pipe. because the 302 is narrower (and not as tall) the 302 y pipe heads 'back' before it goes down in order to clear the starter - no such provision on the 351 - it drops straight down.

now if you are talking full length headers, then there is a chance that they are 'universal', but I would not bet on it.

yea.. mine are totally custom... are you saying the exhaust prt on the 351 is bigger than those on the 302? which means every indivudual pipe coming from each port will be to small?

no, the 351 block is decked appx 1 inch taller than the 302 block, this means the 351 is appx .7 inches taller and appx 1.4 inches wider, therefore the exhaust ports will be similarly moved
