Chatter in o/d or lockup

I've got a 1998 Camry with a chatter or something when it shifts into overdrive or lockup. I don't know if the converter is locking up harshly or if it is when overdrive is coming on , it is the last thing it does. I thought about new fluid and filter. Could this be a characteristic in this transmission?

Gary,
You definitely want to take it into a trans shop and have it checked. I would think that at the very least you would change the fluid and filter. I change mine every 15,000 miles on my 92 Camry. You have an unusual condition so it would surely be prudent to have it checked as soon as possible for it will only get worse. I just hope the trans shop doesn't try to sell you something you don't need. If I were you, I would try just the fluid and filter change and see how it runs. If it runs OK then it runs OK. I pay all of $29.95 for my fluid & filter screen cleaning. If your condition doesn't change then, if you intend to keep the car, consider having your trans repaired. Best of luck to you.
