Unhappy 94 Aerostar acting up

94 Aerostar XL with 172,000 miles starting to hesitate and check engine light flashes on and off occassionally- will not stay on. Van also starting to buck and hesitate on open road while driving 45-65mph. Any thoughts? I want 200,000 out of this girl- idles quiet. thanks

Re: 94 Aerostar acting up

I gave mine a new fuel filter and an online fuel system flush at a fuel system specialist shop. Got a good price and good service, the mech said the fuel filter was likely going to be the biggest issue but I'm sure the flush didn't hurt on my high mile machine.

My 93' Aerostar started doing the same thing this week and I found out that the spark plug wires were shot ( I replaced them last year) after replacing them, it works just fine. I have 218,00KM.

Good Luck!

Re: 94 Aerostar acting up

I've had a couple of Aeorstars. It sounds like 2 things - a good tune-up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV valve and maybe distributor/rotor or ignitions pack) for performance. My 97 check engine light was on so I looked in the Owner's manual. Owner's manual says it is an oxygen sensor. Most auto parts stores will run a check on your vehicle for this and tell you which sensor needs to be replaced. Most will sell you that sensor and tell you where it is.
