Double-Clutching in GST/GSX?

Friend of mine said Double clutching in the Turbo DSMs arent good, bcuz its making the turbo work "TOO HARD" is he rite?? i thought double clutching was really good, while racing or showing off" For me, i think he doesnt kno what he's talkin about. i said if you did that regular driving, its not good...its not even good for the car, but in racing, i think its useful. What you guys think?

Yea...unless your racing to be the slowest person i wouldn't be double clutching in a race.

Maybe this will help you under stand what Double Clutching is.

Stop listening to fast and the furious.

Anyways... Why would double clutching be any different from pressing in the clutch, putting it into a lower gear, then reving it and then letting the clutch out.
Seems the same too me, just that your doing all of that in neutral in double clutching. Just seems like extra work.

Re: Double-Clutching in GST/GSX?

HAHAHA watch fast and furious much? I've used doble clutching on military duece and a halfs and hemtt's. it is simply to keep the rpm's up between gears so that you don't bog out on the next gear. if you're shifting that slow in a race on a 4 cylinder sports car... you have other problems. I don't think you really grasp the concept of double shifting. and your friend needs an update too. Sorry man... no.. double clutching is the worst idea. they only say it in the movie cause the script writer looked up a bunch of driving terms and threw them in there to make the actors look even more retarded. Watch the movie again closely. Go to the part where mr. brian o'conner pops open his hood and everyone shits a brick. and the little nerdy kid starts talkin about t4 turbo's. then.... look at the engine. it's a 420a with a venom valve cover and a dress up kit. it's not even a gst. I've seen the car in person, its an eclipse rs. Sorry to go off on a tangent... I just find these things nice and humorous

Seems the same too me, just that your doing all of that in neutral in double clutching. Just seems like extra work.

If you just rev match without releasing the clutch it eliminates the lurch but does nothing to spin up the syncros. It is agreed that double clutching in a race does little to help you. However if you are in a race that contains turns and you down shift in the beginning of the turn without matching the RPM, the car lurches forward, and you upset the weight balance of the vehicle and possibly cause an oversteer situation where the back end kicks out wide. When I am cruising around on the streets/highways and enter a turn and want to blow thru it I double clutch for the fun of it.

And if you practice double clutching, it can be pretty fast. Only those that never do it screw it up and make it look bad.

Re: Double-Clutching in GST/GSX?

Code4 is correct. Just to add to it a bit, F&F makes people stupid just watching it. They were drag racing from a dead stop, they raced in a straight line, therefore there was no need to downshift, therefore no need to double clutch.

Doubleclutching is when while downshifting you
1. depress clutch and take it out of gear
2. let go of clutch
3. hit gas and match rpms
4. depress clutch and put in lower gear
5. release clutch

This is a good technique to use because it matches the speed of your synchros in your tranny, and prolongs their lifespan. With practice you can do it almost as fast as normal shifting. It is just a good technique to learn, and can/should be appied to ALL manual cars(turbo or non-turbo). In any situation (race or daily driving) when the need to downshift arises.
It is good on your car, prolongs your synchros, eliminates that lurching of downshifting, and saves you from whiplash...why not do it?
