What is the average horse power gain from CAI, Headers and full catback exhaust. I got a prelude vtec all stock right now. Anyone done dyno after any of these mods.

thanks for input.

Re: I/H/E horse power gain

~10-20whp. A header won't net you much unless it's 4-1.

Re: I/H/E horse power gain

trust me...i know....
i strongly suggest NOT buying ebay headers, they are not the best quality and they are about 2 inches too long, and if your using the stock exhaust, you'll have to actually have a friend pull it back while you try to wiggle the new one in, then you'll have to get a rubber hose, slice it, and use it as padding so it doesn't rattle the shit out of your car.

also...the ebay headers do not mount onto the stock manifold's brackets and are actually braced to nothing except a brace at the bottom of the car, so i can't imagine it'll be a long time before it breaks and i have to slap my JDMs back on.

Re: I/H/E horse power gain

Aside from corrosion and material quality, the ebay stuff is okay. It works.

You'll notice that it's the same as any AEM intake or DC Sports Header (which, by the way, are shitty...)

Just nab a ceramic header and a standard cold air or short ram intake; you won't get any more power from having a shiny pipe or a name printed on it. They are perfectly fine at low levels. (I used to run a K&N filter on an bent pipe I bought at Home Depot... although ghetto, it works as well as my AEM pipe)

ebay CAI's are OK. get DC headers, and please dont spend 200$ on an ebay catback.... if anything go get a custom exhaust from a muffler shop, just make sure the piping is mendrel bent. a shitty ebay exhaust will probably leak and be even more loud an obnoxious than when you originally put it on the car... then a month later you'll have to take it off and that'd be a waste of a couple hundred bucks... when you could have added another 120 and gotten a nicer custom one that'll last.

Re: I/H/E horse power gain

Mandrel bending gains are pretty much minimal on a large enough pipe, but.. Don't get a performance muffler. They sound loud and shitty.

DC headers and stock Prelude headers are almost identical. Don't get it.

* i dont know much about prelude headers... i have an integra*

i'd rather have a 2.5" exhaust with mendrel bent piping (on a lude) over a 2.75" exhaust without mendrel bent piping... imo it's worth getting the first of the two. and about the muffler, who needs one ;-). heh. get a good chambered muffler.

Re: I/H/E horse power gain

I don't like performance mufflers primarily because of their sound. I don't like the sound of the EVO or N1 catbacks either, but I guess it's just opinion. They are still excellent in delivering less restriction.

Re: I/H/E horse power gain

I am using a custom setup. My Magnaflow mufflers are loud... Civic-without-a-muffler loud. It's freed up quite a bit of flow, though.
