Question How Good Is The Tibby??

I've been looking at one for quite some time now, but I want a 1999 not a new one, I like to older style headlights better Anywho, if I don't get a Tibby it'll be a muscle car... so, would a Tiburon be worth it or what? I'm not that knowledgable with so called "Imports" so any advice would be great.

Re: How Good Is The Tibby??

I have a 99 Tiburon as well as a 2003 and neither have given me any complication. It's a very reliable car with many aftermarket parts for it.

the aftermarket scene is definately better for other cars. there are aftermarket parts available for the "RD"(97-2001....97-99=RD1/00-01=RD2), but sometimes they are more expensive than you would find for a honda or something similiar. but personally, i think the weaker aftermarket is worth the uniqueness you get having a tiburon.

check out www.rdtiburon.com. its a fairly new site, but has a real good "community" sense to it.

or you can check out
www.hyundaiperformance.com
www.hyundaiaftermarket.com
they are much bigger sites.

i am tibby01 there too. it focuses on the 1st and 2nd gen tiburons, since they are so similiar.

btw, duke sucks. umd is better.

What the hell is UMD? You have no right to tell me the Dukes suck, because they don't. So why don't you keep your mouth shut until you decide to keep on topic or only say nice things. God, people are so rude these days.

Re: How Good Is The Tibby??

That's sort of strange...Tib or Muscle Car? If I could start over again, I'd choose a muscle car...only reason is because Tib mods are expensive...and require the accumulated knowledge that I've gotten from trying to tune this sucker. Overall, I'd rather slap on a turbocharger, rather than come up with some clever way of making it all work to its max.

I mean...the aerodynamics of a muscle car is like throwing a brick through the air versus your aerodynamically shaped brick (note: Tibs are slightly aerodynamic...could be a lot better, though)...but you're throwing the blocky brick from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds.

Sorry Tibby01, I've been grumpy all day... and yes, I like the Dukes of Hazzard, not some basketball team I've never heard of lol.

Anyway, yeah lots of people have given me different oppinions about this. so it just confuses me more lol.

I found a Chevelle for 6K, that's been repainted and has a new motor, so maybe an older car would be more worth my while since they are easier to fix and work on.

On the other hand, Tiburons can be driven year round, so it would be more practical. I see a lot them in my city so they can't be as bad as some people say they are.

I'm not really looking for anything I can turn into a "fast and the furious" type car. If I got the Tibby, the most I would do is put a spoiler and maybe some neons on it... that's it for me. I love the body style as it is.

I'm really not all that car smart... I can change tires and oil, but that's about it for me. I took mechanics class but they wouldn't let me work on anything because I was a girl.... so I learnt nothing!

hyundai had a bad beginning track record that has stuck with them through the years. which is strange because all car companines start off bad, its just cause hyundai is a newer company.

truth is, a big car magazine just ranked them tied for 2nd with honda in terms of reliablitlity, with only toyota above.

its all about preference. tiburon and muscle car are at 2 different ends of the sports car spectrum.

Yes I know, it's a far stretch between them, that's why I'm having such a hard time deciding. I want something that isn't gonna bust down too much and if it does, at least it can be easily fixed. I heard Honda's are hard cars to fix. But I love the way the Tibby looks, so..sexy! lol. But I also love basically every muscle car out there. So... I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Re: How Good Is The Tibby??

Tiburon is reliable...overall...a good car. Only draw back is that it's FWD...if it were AWD/RWD...mmm...the potentials of the car could match that of the Eclipse. Evo...well...if the Tib were AWD, it'll prolly still be licking its wounds a bit...unless you know what you're doing.

most fuel injected cars will be harder to fix than carb muscle cars. less electronics and its easier to fix mechanical things.

Yeah I was thinking that too, I suppose I should just go with a muscle car then. If it'll be easier for me to take care of if it breaks, then that's what I want. Now the question is... what kind of muscle car? :P
