16g support mod questions...
I've done some searching and have a few additional questions for my soon to be evo 16g setup. (hopefully) I know I don't have to upgrade the injectors, but I ill probably do it anyway. I'm also going with the walbro 190 to save myself on the FPR and an afc. or do you still think I'll need one? I already have greddy piping for the stock intercooler and a type s. Plus an intake. I haven't gotten around to getting an exhaust yet. and sadly NONE of this stuff is installed yet. the car is still bone stock. and I'm going to have him putting the 16g on as soon as the dealership gets back to him. My major question is this. I've been told and read that the smic will get heat soaked very easily and quickly when running a higher boost level on the 16g. I planned on getting the front mount anyway but now I'm not sure on which one to get. I've heard that the greddy front mounts are shit. and they're expensive as balls. So I was looking into a good spearco. probably the 28x10x3. Does anyone know where I can purchase intercooler piping to work with this intercooler? I've asked around and I can't find anywhere that can mandrel bend me intercooler pipes. does anyone know a shop that I can order it from and have it shipped to my house? also what would you suggest getting on top of the things I have listed?
Also do you think it will hurt anything if I run the car for a little while on the 16g without the fmic and maybe some other things. I would keep it at a very low boost level. probably 8 or 9 psi. all input is appreciated. along with suggested setups and parts. thanks for your help guys. God I"m such a newb with this turbo shit

Re: 16g support mod questions...
In eclipseRST's writeup about turboing the rs/gs...
he used PVC pipes, not sure if you can do that also, but would be a cheap alternetive.

Re: 16g support mod questions...
mmm yea. haha. I don't think I'll be doing that. I've got the money. I wanna do it right. Also, I'm looking around for prices and whatnot for the turbo. SBR has the Evo3 16g for 569, and the install kit from RRE is 325. thats 895 dollars for a brand new evo setup. I was wondering, do I need an evo manifold or will the stock one work? I'm trying to help out the dealership as much as I can and benefit myself as well. the rebuilt t25 is gonna cost 1200 dollars, so they're already saving a couple hundred bucks. it's 200 for the evo manifold on RRE. Do I need it, and would I be a horrible person for getting it anyway? since it's still gonna bve less that the t25? I'm trying to hook myself up while still being fair to the dealership. let me know what you think.

Re: 16g support mod questions...
Bausher racing has the evo 16 for 535(just bought one, i have the greddy 24 rail, and it keeps my intake charge ice cold, i love it. you definetally want to get a down pipe and exhaust and a k&Nfilter charger if not a whole intake. Youll need an AFC if you decide to upgrade the injectors so you can tone them down a bit. THats about it, good luck bro.

Re: 16g support mod questions...
I was going to get it from SBR cause I only live about an hour and a half from them. and my mechanic wants to be able to talk to them and ask questions. so we'll see. thanks for the info though. the 24 rail greddy runs like $850 though.. do you anyone who has it for cheaper? also, if I get the 550cc injectors to go with the 190 walbro, do you think the afc will be enough or should I get a fpr too? I'll list out everything I have, and someone tell me what else I need/don't need. Thanks.
evoIII big 16g, RRE full install kit, Greddy 24 rail FMIC or equivelant, greddy uicp with type s bov, K&N FIPK, 550 injectors, and the apex s-afcII. I'm using the greddy profec B and greddy turbo timer. I have atuometer C2 boost, air/fuel and egt guages. I'm going to be getting the rre dp and apex N1 exhaust. this is going to put a dent in my account like no other and probably take me a month to get and install everything. but will that be everything I need? and does anyone have any suggestions on other things to get? Plus are there any little things I need to watch out or any pointers you can give me on the installs for those parts? Thanks again for all the help guys you're the best!

Re: 16g support mod questions...
also, Will I need to upgrade my clutch? I'm thinkin this is going to be a pretty impressive power gain. Is my stock clutch going to slip really bad or will I be ok with it. If it's not bad I'll just use it till it starts to die, then replace it. Thanks

Re: 16g support mod questions...
yet another question... sorry. I was looking at RRE's DP's and highflow cats. if running a DP is illegal, then why bother trying to be legal with the cat? I think I'm going to run apex all the way. I was on DSMparts.com and they have the apex DP for 217. which is about 50 less than the short DP from RRE. It replaces the cat and I"m assuming it will bolt right up with the N1. (seeing how it's apex also) Then for inspections (once a year) I'll throw on the stock exhaust and be able to pass smog no problem. what do you guys think? should I stop being a stingy bastard and spend the extra couple hundred buck and get the stuff from RRE or is the full apex deal better? Thanks for your input.

Re: 16g support mod questions...
The 2g install kit is $199 from SBR, which is much better than 325. I think it includes part or all of the LICP, so you should definately call SBR and ask if they can include the LICP for a FMIC instead of the stock SMIC. They might be able to give you a package deal as well, with all IC pipes for any FMIC they carry. I would go with the 2g SBR IC kit for $899, and like I said, talk to them to see how you should arrange buying kit and IC kit, as they include some of the same pipes. You are aware that your greddy UICP won't be needed, right?
You'll want a way to tune for sure, so if the AFC is the way you're going, at one point that will be necessary to getting the car to run well. You'll need a datalogger as well. Thought about DSMlink for $850 (600dsmlink + 250 eprom used) instead of $500 (330 S-AFC2 + 175 pocketlogger)? Only if you'll be upgrading farther, of course. I wouldn't bother with a new manifold or o2 housing at this point, maybe porting, though. I don't know if your clutch will slip just under WOT, but for an AWD, the stock clutch slips on hard launches, so it's really not that strong. You might lose traction on a GST before the clutch spins though... you'll be able to drive plenty and decide on that later. EDIT>> Oh yeah, and some people are running out of fuel with 550's on a 190lph and 16g. The 660's should do better. An untuned evo16g and SBR 650's put down 280whp on a sidemount. |

Re: 16g support mod questions...
Thanks for the info joe. I'm gonna call SBR on monday and tell them what the deal is. then see if they can ship me the parts, and I'll pay for everything that isn't getting charged to the dealership.
I'll have them throw their install kit in with the turbo when they send it to me. that is goin along with the dealerships costs, since it'll still be cheaper than a rebuilt t25. I think I'm just gonna stick with the afc. I doubt I'll go further than the evo turbo anyway. I'll probably go with the 660 injectors. I didn't know about the 550's starving. thanks for that heads up. also my friend is gonna port my stock manifold for me. so that saves me 200 bucks right there. As far as the clutch goes, I'll just stick with the stock one till it gives me problems. I'm not gonna be runnin too many track days anyway. I don't wanna beat the car up too bad. just wanna see what she can do. then I'll replace it when it needs it. I keep seein people saw "WOT" I've been pretty good at figuring out the acronyms but this one illudes me? what is it exactly? Lastly, with the fmic, I'm lookin into buying my buddies brand new apex GT front mount. it's brand new, and has all the piping. but when I looked at it, it only looked like it went to the lower piping, and I would need an upper intercooler piping set. cause there was nowhere to mount a BOV. 900 bucks seems like a lot for an intercooler, but I guess it wouldnt be bad if it came with all the necessary piping. I'll look into it and ask the guys at SBR. also, my buddy was sayin I might still need a FPR with the 190. Or do you think the afc will be enough to keep it under control? thanks again for all the input guys!

Re: 16g support mod questions...
No FPR needed with the 190. The SBR 2g core is like $599, and $899 with piping. Subtract the money you'll make by selling your Greddy UICP from that if you sell it also.
Your buddies FMIC is for a DSM right? Make sure its for a 2g so everything fits. Once again, don't know if SBR can make you a UICP for a FMIC they don't carry, so you'll have to ask. AFC will do well, just remember that pocketlogger.

Re: 16g support mod questions...
sounds good. I'm gonna call them on monday and see what all they can do for me. I think I'm gonna go with the greddy 24 rail. I checked out the sbr intercooler and somethin about it just doesn't sit right with me. I dunno. I'll see what they have to say. this little project is gonna take about 2 weeks to unfold probably... so I'm gonna make sure I have everything I need waiting for me when my mechanic is donw with the car.. so I can pull it into the garage and get it started. thanks for the help..
