Re: new to the dsm scene
take a look at RRE or dsmparts.com's upgrade paths. they will list everything you need to do to get to certain approximate times, and the average cost it will take. I am in the middle of doing some serious upgrading and can't wait to see what kind of improvements and times I'll be running. Hell I didn't even have a chance to get used to the t25. But I've decided to hold off on all my body work till I'm happy with my times and get the track runs out of my system. Good luck with your project. From what I hear, 13's are very very attainable with minimal money and mods. I think 95gsx racer hit 12 with 1800 in modifications. but he's a god, so who knows for the rest of us.

Re: new to the dsm scene
I doubt many people will hit ANY 13's on a stock turbo. By the way, stock boost is already 15psi so there's not much 'turning it up' to do.
Go through the upgrade steps, and considering you'll never stop upgrading... you'll have a 13 second vehicle without too much money. I'd go with a 16g turbo. |

i looked at the car alittle better and noticed that it has an INJEN intake and something on the passenger side by the struttower and its silver and says hks can you tell me what it is. the turbo wrap is this silver stuff that wraps the turbo up??? also what does the stock intercooler look like??? because the one on it looks like a silver chrome color and looks new with aftermarket intercooler pipes that look the same as the intercooler itself like greddy pipes god i want that car so bad i cant wait till this week

Re: new to the dsm scene
Take a picture of it all.
HKS thing seems like an HKS BOV. Stock SMIC is in front of the passenger wheel, and could be an upgraded side-mount like a Supra SMIC. If the intercooler is in front of the radiator (FMIC) then it's definately upgraded.. and will have new intercooler piping for sure. |

it does have and aftermarket intercooler i stopped and talked to the guy and looked it has from what i noticed was a greddy IC and the hard piping and it was an hks bov and it has a blue turboxs boostcontroller and it has a aftermarket turbo thats bigger and says air research turbo --- is that a good one??? also it has a 3" down pipe going into a full apexi n1 exhaust minus the cat. also it has a turbo timer and a apexi S-AFC controller also accel 8mm wires and polyureathane engine mounts and injen intake he says its running 18psi boost so would it be worth 8 grand for the 1996 gst with all those upgrades cause im thinking of getting it

Re: new to the dsm scene
Well according to nadaguides.com that car in flawless condition is worth $5375.00. They define flawless as "All power equipment should be functional. The paint should match and have a high gloss finish. The carpet and seat upholstery should be clean and have minimal wear. The engine should start quickly and run smoothly. The tires should be like new with a spare and jack. The mileage should be significantly below the acceptable mileage range for the model year.". If you want my opinion on it you can get a better deal then that. That has pretty high mileage and unless he has done alot of work to it then I wouldn't give any more than maybe 6 large or something.

joemathews --- all i have to say is i use NOS... does anyone have a problem with it!?! its a quick increase in HP for cheap $$$ i find nothing wrong with it unless you have no clue how to run it and you start quoting things from the F&TF movies! in that case your just plain stupid and should not be able to own a fast car, go buy a honduh!

i said it wasnt the stock turbo and i listed everything in it its an air research turbo and just cause its says its worth 5300 doesnt mean the value of the car is worth that with the mods the 5300 is for a stock car. this car has all the supporting mods that i said (widebodysilvia) said so with all that put into it is like over 2 grand and also with all those mods what do you think it will run on 18psi of boost think it will beat my aunt i think im getting it tomorrow. also what else whould you do to it.

Re: new to the dsm scene
2 things to remember when determining the value of a car.
1: mods never...NEVER add to the value of a car. Even if he has 20 grand in engine work, it isn't worth a dime more. That is why intelligent people strip their cars of any mods and sell them seperately. Anyone who says that they add to the value of the car just wants to make their money back. 2: a car is worth what someone will pay for it. You seem to want the mods...I don't blame you. If you want the mods and would end up doing them in the long run anyway, then you may view it as "I am saving money buying it already modded" this is a valid point, and good for you if it is your view. However, don't let him talk you up past what the car is worth. I would point it out to him that the car isn't worth that much. Try and work him down.

i know that but those are the exact mods pretty much i want to do to it so if i buy it for a little more than the value then its ok cause i will be better off in the long run because im just learning and wouldnt know how to install some of the things. im gonna try to get it down about a grand or more and its at a car lot so it should drop the price
P.S. does anyone know what it will run with those mods??? i need to be low 13's |
