Where's all the threads about superchargers? and computers?

I hear all of this stuff about cams, headers, exhaust, gears, nitrous, turbochargers, but I never hear anything about superchargers.
But on a second thought from what I've been hearing, the key to the LS1 is the computer. The engine and auto tranny is controlled by the computer. You can change almost everything, tune it to get a very good amount of horsepower out of the stock engine. So what's the point of buying all of this stuff then you have to buy a programmer or pay to have it programmed too to get the full potential of your new parts?
Well back to the supercharger, I've been looking through a lot of mags lately and vortech makes a good supercharger that adds almost 200 HP with the water/air intercooler. This kit comes with everything you need! Fuel injectors, supercharger, water lines, all of the accessories and hardware and wiring you'd need. It also comes with...oh yes, from what I've heard...the computer programmer. One kit for 6 grand and you can add 200 HP! From what I'm told you don't have to touch the engine, maybe the only thing you'd want is the LS6 cam. The lower end is virtually indestructable. But of course after the charger you'd want more airflow in and out of the engine. But with all this I heard the LS1 can handle it without remorse. The car will still run smooth and true for a long life!! But start tearing into the engine and it could tear the engine apart. I'm thinking the more airflow in/out and the supercharger could add a total of almost 300...and about 600HP would be enough for me as a street car If I'd turn it into a drag I'd replace the LS1 with a car that's not relied on the computer so much... am I headed the right way with this? I plan on keeping my Z28 as a street car, but want to add HP. Is this a good way to go to keep the engine reliable?

lol, never heard anyone talk about superchargers?? wheres Genopsyde when you need him

damn 200hp from one kit, thats freakin huge considering most supercharger systems give only 50% extra hp but this one is giving over 65% extra hp, and thats before touching the engine and getting a better exhaust, etc.. sounds awesome if its true, but its gonna cost you around $10,000 all up with installation and exhaust and all the other parts you're getting.
$10,000 for only 600hp, i think you could get a lot more for that kinda cash, but i can't really say specifically coz i don't live in the U.S. myself. i'm sure someone else will have something to say about this.

ya he's right, although 2hp is very noticable difference, the price seems a little stiff for ONLY 200hp. but are you talking about replacing the LS with a non computer controlled engine? dont, bottom line...carburators are worthless and you'll wish you hadn't. fuel injection isn't as hard as is looks once you get a grasp on it. just ask 1992RS about that. in fact i did a fuel injection swap into my 71

Re: Where's all the threads about superchargers? and computers?

How can you add 200HP FI to a stock LS1 that has very high (10.1) compression, isn't that like a ticking time bomb. I mean, I know you can superchange any stock motor, just like any import owner can slap on a turbo, but this is always an issue. I'm sure if you ask the integra poeple about slapping a turbo on a stock Type R they say it was a bad idea (has something like 10.6 compression). If i was ever going to supercharge my Ls1 I'd want to rebuild it first to be FI ready. Just my $.02

Re: Where's all the threads about superchargers? and computers?

yeah, from my rule of thumb, with a 10.1 compression i would only run a max of 5-6 lbs boost, to get 200hp from that little boost would be pushing it, even with an intercooler, and reprograming of the system. i also feel your money would be better spent on other mods. for 10k i could easily pick out cams, worked heads, pistons, intake, and exhaust parts that would add more than 200hp.
