FS: 74 Monte Carlo w/ Original 400 4bl. Rust Free Cali Car.

I purchased this original rust free (*when I say rust free I mean not rot through, there is surface rust where the sun has baked the paint) from a Charity Group in California. It was donated by the owner to be auctioned off for a charity. The body is very straight with the exceptions of a few clean dents on the drivers side. I think it was from the charity lot moving cars around. The Vinyl Landau Top is in bad shape, but again I see no rust issues. The paint on the hood, trunk and roof have some sun bake. The plastic filler between the trunk and bumper is gone.

Any ways, what realy drew me to this car was that it came with a 400 small block Chevy with a 4 brl carb. You can tell by the 5th digit in the Vin number 1H57U4Z458364 In this case it is the "U". From what I can gather, only 4% of this years Monte's came with this engine. The suffix code stamped on the front pad of this engine is "CTC". This is what it translates too:

1974 CTC 400 ci t/h trans., Calif - 175 4 A B

So this appears to be the original and correct 400 engine for this California Monte. This information was obtained from: Nastyz28.com

When I bought the car it did not run. I was told that it had a bad battery, starter and a fuel leak. I have replaced the battery, starter and the fixed the fuel leak.

Now the car starts up and runs fine. I have driven it around the block a few times and have noticed no problems other than a minor valve cover leak. I'm sure it would benefit from a tune up too since it has been sitting for a while. I did get a nice chirp of the wheels from the torque of the 400 engine without even trying. The cars steering was tight and the suspensions seemed very tight too. The cars braking system stopped the car fine with no strange noises or pulling. Please realize that I briefly drove the car and I am giving my description based of on that brief test drive. Since this car was sitting for a period of time, I would advise you to completely go over this car before you consider making this a highway cruiser.

This car also has the swivel bucket seats and console. The A/C is there and the belt is on the compressor, but it is not blowing cold air.

The tires seem to be almost new tread Michelins, but be aware they have been sitting a round for at least a year. All hubcaps are on the car. There is what appears to be a factory AM FM Radio, but seems to have no power.

This car comes with the California "Pink" slip a few transfer of ownership forms. One from the Owner to the Charity, Charity to me, Me to you. The last time it was legally registered was March 2002. If you are California resident, I have been told it is registered No-Op,
