No Oil Pressure On 1992 E150

My oil pressure gauge is completely down to low. It just stopped working day before yesterday, it worked (in and out) a few times for a mile or two before i got it home. I dont want to drive it until i can correct this! Is there a sensor that i can check? A repair shop is my last option! Please inform. Thanks! (5.0L V8)

You don't have an "oil pressure gauge", you have an Oil pressure or NOT indicator. Either you have oil pressure, or you don't, that's how the "gauge" works. It is a switch activated indicator. With 5-6 psi or more, it shows in the normal range, with less it will show low or no pressure on the indicator.

It is very likely that the switch mounted near the oil filter is just bad, but it *could* be that you really do have a pressure problem.

The quick and easy "fix" is to replace the switch, then drive it and see how it goes. If you still have problems, then it's time to get a mechanical gauge on it.

Re: No Oil Pressure On 1992 E150

Get yourself a mechanical oil pressure gauge that uses electrical connection instead of a long oil hose that might get broken and squirt oil all over the place.

All you got to do is unscrew the oil pressure switch on your engine and screw in the mechanical gauge and see the correct pressure reading.

Do you hear a ticking noise when the pressure goes down?

A lot of low oil pressure is neglected engine. Recommened oil change is 3,000 miles but check the condition of the oil often. If the oil breaks down "black death", they turn into a hard film that clogs oil passage ways and you can see that inside your valve cover and sometimes on the oil cap itself.
Some were told that it is time to replace the engine and overhaul since it already ticking. Some people just go ahead and shell out their money.

I've fixed my relatives vehicle by trying to clean the clogged up oil passage ways and clogged oil pump.

My first step would be to dump 1 quart of Gunk Motor Oil Flush to your existing oil. Start the engine and let it IDLE for 5 minutes and drain the oil. I use 5W30 for this test and I put 3/4 quar oil inside the oil filter itself before screwing it in the engine. Start the vehicle and see if the ticking occurs.

If the ticking goes away, I told them to come back around 1,000 miles for another oil change using 10W30 and another oil change after 3,000 miles.

If the ticking does not go away, I told them that it is time to drop the oil pan and replace the oil pump and oil pump filter/strainer and clean the oil pan surface for any gunk. Install 5W30 oil and see if the ticking comes back. If the ticking is still there, I'll try to use a thicker oil and see if the ticking goes away. If not, engine rod/bearings needs replacement. If the ticking goes away, I told them to come back around 1,000 miles for another oil change using 10W30 and another oil change after 3,000 miles.
