Electronic Boostcontroler

hey guys.. after talking to some of the people here like BoostedSpyder, i've finally decided to invest a little more money on getting an electronic boost controler. however, unlike many of you.. i don't have a whole lot to dish out. so this will be a long term investment. i just wannt some inputs from you guys on what kind of elect boostcontroler is best for the least amount of money.

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

My used profec B

Its a tough call really. The profec was ~325-350 when I bought it, compared to other 500-600 dollar options. But the tradeoff is I cant get it to run over 26 psi. Which may not be a problem for people with more sanity than myself. Now there are options in the 350$ range that are supposed to be able to go higher, though the Profec B Spec2 isnt getting any rave reviews. OTher rice brands make them in that price range, I just forget the names. Those are the ones I need to try next. Its tough to find real info on them though, since all the "fast guys" are using manuals or bling blang 600 dollar EVCs. So your question seems simple enough, but its a real pain in the ass, and I dont have an answer yet.

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

if you dont plan on running insane times like 95 GSXracer, than i would recomend the greddy profec bII, its very user friendly and the solenoid is extremely small so it saves lots of room. I would get this untill your ready to upgrade and run over 26 psi (which is a lot).

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

are there any special tricks to installing the profec b 2? I got one for my gs-t (as soon as it's fixed) and was wondering if there were any tips you had. It didn't look dificult and I"m fairly knowledgeable on installing things.. just don't have much/any experience with turbo cars and components. Thanks

Seriously Import2nr99, you are rich. Its very easy to hook up a boost controller, I don't think there's anything you wouldn't find simple.

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

rich.. hardly. But when you spend a year and a half sitting in a shitty 3rd world country with nothing to spend your money on.. it adds up and you get to blow it on fun toys! E-5 pay plus hazardous duty and so on. I guess they have to pay us a lot to get shot at. I wasn't compalining! also nice having some compensation for getting all jacked up in the name of uncle sam! Plus I will have a full time job here in about a week and I'm only payin 200 bucks a month rent. yea... life is good haha. what can I say? not to rub it in haha.

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

It's ok - my car will be paid off in the next 1-2 months. Goes pretty fast when you pay 900 a month. I'm doing my POSR ABS intake this weekend.

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

what you hook the power and ground to? I got a blitz sbc a while back that I'm too lazy to install, and horrified that I'm going to short out!

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

SBC?
I always say the best switched 12v are parking lights or cell phone recharger (aka cig. lighter).
You can use the ground wire for either of those, or ground to the frame with any screw you find to metal, not paint.

I just tapped into the power and ground from the turbo timer so it turns on/off with the ignition.
you may want to get a test light

shit i totally forgot that i posted this thread. thanks for all the responses guys. greatly appreciated. i think i'll look into the greddy profec specII. and i don't think i'll ever get to boost anywhere as high as Kevin. and i seriously doubt that i can install that myself. i think for this EBC i might just have to send it to the shop and pay $300 for it.

speakin of which, 95GSXracer, i am planning on buying those gauges and fule pump this summer. i'll have those parts ready when i pay off my current debts . gotta love capitalism, need to be in debt to make money. anyways.... when that time comes, get ready for your pizza

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

Like I said in my other post, I just picked up an Apexi AVC-D ebc for $100. It has some pretty sweet features, although I haven't gotten to try it out yet. You can set varying boost levels for 3k, 5k, and 7k rpm, as well as having a scramble setting if you add an additional switch; that means you can flip the switch and run higher boost for a designated time period, like 20 seconds or whatever. There's also a feature where you can set boost at a given speed, like drop boost to 10 psi at 60 mph, or whatever you want. I picked mine up on the dsmtuner.com classifieds, so keep your eyes open, and I'm sure you can grab a nice one. Another thing to consider if you just want to switch between street and race boost is a dual stage mbc like Joe P's for $90, or TurboXS's.

Re: Electronic Boostcontroler

that sounds like a really good deal for $100. do all the EBC have different stage boost like the one you got?
