Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
Does anyone know if you can convert the headlights for 2003 Yukon Xl to Denali headlights or HID lights?
Thanks |

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
I have a 2001 Yukon XL and am looking for HID too. I think someone makes replacement headlights, just don't remember details. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you want to install HIDs in the stock Yukon headlight housing, then you'll need to get a 9006 HID retrofit kit; if you want to swap out the stock Yukon headlight housing for the Denali look, then just get the Denali headlight housings--they'll fit right in, except they require 9005 bulbs. If you want the Denali housing AND HID, then get the 9005 HID retrofit kit along with the housing. The Denali housings typically aren't cheap, but you might get lucky and find a set for a good price on Ebay.
Short of finding a projector headlight housing designed for HID and putting in a true HID non-retrofit kit, the Denali housing/9005 HID retrofit kit is the best way to go if you have the money...plus, the Denali headlight projector housings are better--both in form and function--than the plain old Yukon ones. |

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
Sylvania has HID replacement headlamps for Chevy and other trucks, but not GMC.
www.sylvania.com/xenarc The Sylvania kit will not fit for the Yukon, as the Chevy headlights are not as tall as the Yukon ones. (sigh...). They do have a rectangular fog light / auxiliary low beam light kit. That fits the Yukon, but not the Denali, which has round fog lights. http://www.sylvania.com/xenarc/x1010.htm So, I will take tonytone's advice and get the Denali (projector) lamps and then add an HID bulb kit. Who has quality Philips or Osram HID kits? Thanks again, Eggert. Last edited by Eggert; 04-08-2004 at 09:02 PM. |

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
If you guys can stand one more post...
I called Sylvania about if they were planning a Xenarc HID X2020 kit for the GMC's. They informed me that they are getting out of the HID kit business due to low demand. Does anybody know, if the Denali projector type headlamps are much better than the regular Yukon reflector type ones? About $400-$500 better? Last edited by Eggert; 04-10-2004 at 12:27 AM. |

You can't be too unhappy going the Denali projector route, but like you said yourself, is it worth $400-$500 more? I was thinking about buying a set for my regular Yukon, but couldn't pull the trigger on paying that much for just projectors...so I just bought a Denali instead. Gotta love that kind of weird logic, eh?

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
Hi tonytone, I can see that you solved your problem...
I thought about getting a Denali. As for the headlamps, I just got an OEM pair for $260 on ebay... here is the link, they have a bunch of truck stuff http://stores.ebay.com/MARTINS-AUTO-...enameZl2QQtZkm They also are off ebay on the net at http://www.truckefx.com/ This may be helpful for others looking for stuff for newer trucks/SUV's... Take care, Eggert.

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
Hi guys, I just put the new Denali headlamps in, they even came with new Philips 9005 bulbs.
They are a worthy improvement, as the beam also has a wide part to it, similar to a H4 or fog lamp.Highly recommended. Take care, Eggert

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
are the denali headlights a direct plug and play replacement for the standard yukon headlights? I am very interested in doing this and I am trying to get an idea of how much work this will be...
Thanks... |

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
Just make sure that they (assuming you're talking about OEM Denali headlights, not aftermarket ones) come with the correct headlight connector plugs, since the standard Yukon headlight connector plugs directly to the bulb, whereas the Denali connector plugs to an aux connector on the Denali headlight cluster itself, then there is a separate wiring harness on the cluster itself that plugs to the bulb. This is so (IIRC) because the Denali uses 9005 bulbs for low beam.

Have just purchased a pair of after market Denali assemblies for my 03 Yukon and have run into the plug problem. Does anyone know of the aux plugs mentioned being available after market? Any other suggestions for mateing the 9005 blubs to the Yukon?

Re: Converting Yukon XL headlights to Denali Lights
Hi YukonJen, it is not a big deal to do. You just take some material off the inside of the connector to accept the 2 ridges of the bulb (instead of just one ridge). The factory projector headlamp has a plug converter harness piece on it.
Here is what I posted some time ago in a thread titled "Yukon and Denali" Link to the whole thrad: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...47#post1798547 There is one modification you must make: Both Denali Hi and Low beams are 9005. The old low beams are 9006. This is not a big deal, but you must make the groove on the light bulb connector wide enough to accept the two ridges from the bulb. I used a drill and a kitchen knife. Be careful, the plastic is quite soft. Take care and happy carving. Eggert Johnson
