Z24 vs. ls sport

i was wondering if how any of the z24's were measuring up to the new ls sport coupes? anyone race any of them? i was wondering if anyone had the same result i had tonight......... i was on my way home from work and i pull up at a light next to a new ls sport cavalier. i wasnt looking to race or anything but the light turns green and the guy just takes off peeling tires and everything. well i end up lineing up to him at the next light not wanting to race still and he does the same thing! about 3 miles down the road we end up linging up again and i decide that this time when the light turns green i'm gone. the light turns green i take off and he takes off, he got a jump on me at the start (i think his car was auto) and after that i just pulled hard on him till he was about 5 car lengths behind me. the rest of the way home i couldnt believe that i beat this guy that bad, i thought the new sport cavalier was about as fast as the Z24???

Re: Z24 vs. ls sport

Well from wha you say, I am assuming you are running a manual, If that was the case the guy stoof his ground pretty well. The new Ls sport is comparable to the Z24, GM did it to save insurance headaches. The eco is pulling 140HP, and 150 lb-ft of torque, where the 2.4 was pulling 150 both ways. The cars should be comparable in all catergories as it is the torque you were using off the line, and if he was tunning a slush bo then ypu should have beat him. I have been running my eco with the 5-spd, and am comparable to stock z24's here.....(when I get to drive my car)

yea i'm running a manual, and i dont think that he hung with me real well at all. i pulled hard on him the whole time. i'm not knocking the new cavvys at all, but they should at least keep up right? our maybe that since that was an auto and i'm a stick that accounts for the outcome. i'd like to race one thats stick that should be a good race!

Re: Z24 vs. ls sport

my buddy has a 98 Z24 5 speed, his best 1/4 mile time at the track is a 15.6 and he doesnt start pulling on me till he hits 3rd gear...he gets about a carlength on me by the time we hit 80 or so...but then again not all automatic Ecotecs run 15.9's either...
