94 Bonneville SSE - Pump Gas Pedal To Start
Hi... I'm real new so be nice.
 We own a 94 Bonneville SSE. It recently had issues and decided to just stop running. Changed fuel pump, strainer, filter and relay. Car runs wonderful. The only issue now is that after the car sits for a few minutes you have to pump the gas once to get it to start.. or let it turn over for what I consider too long. Once it starts.. if you shut of the car off then try and start it starts just fine. Is it possible that there is air or something in the fuel line? Is that even possible? I'm not a mechanic but know just enough to make me dangerous. Thanks in advance for any possible suggestions. Last edited by musicbizguy; 03-31-2004 at 11:18 PM.

Check your Fuel Pressure, and if that's fine, have the injectors tested, or at least looked at. The Gas pedal actually dosen't use more gas, it just opens the throttle plate up, when more air goes through thr throttle, the MAF sensor picks it up, and says more gas.
So your gas pedal is actually an air pedal

Ok... the car gets fuel just fine when it's running. It's just when it's stopped and you try to start it after it has been sitting that there is an issue. Not much of an issue. Just having to press the gas pedal once or twice to get fuel to the engine. The thing is that this was not an issue until we recently had the pump and all goodies having to do with the fuel system replaced.
It almost seems that the fuel drains back to the tank or something (ok.. I'm clueless and it shows) and then it takes a bit for it to make it's way back to the injectors. Is the fuel supposed to anything like that or shouldn't it just stay in the lines all the time?

Yes theres always fuel pressure in the line...you should have around 49 psi when the car is running/cranking....fuel injectors can leak into the intake causing hard starting...a flooded condition...

You may have a leaking fuel pressure regulator that is allowing fuel to drain through the return line back to the tank when the car is sitting
