Speed Chips/ IAT SENSOR

I have a 96 Dodge Ram and thinking about getting one of those SPEED CHIPS that increase +20 hp. Is it worth it? Has anyone actually try it out? If it does WORK where is the IAT SENSOR located at? and is it easy to install?

Re: Speed Chips/ IAT SENSOR

I felt like I should answer since nobody else has.

I don't know anything about these things. I would say it's worth a try. If you don't like it, sell it.

Re: Speed Chips/ IAT SENSOR

It does something in the computer that lets it do something for the motor. It makes sense.

In the new diesel engines, if you're going down the road and something doesn't seem right, just call the engine manufacturer on the phone and they will connect with the engine by satellite and find out what the problem is. Depending on the problem, they can fix it when you're going down the road, or at least find out what the problem is, so you'll know.

I'd believe a chip could get you 20 more horsepower. The whole engine is run and regulated by computers anyways. It just makes sense.

Yeah it makes the truck think that its carring a heavier load which in return gives more engine output (hp). Ok lets say it works, now where is the IAT sensor located on a 96 Dodge ram ??

But still any other suggestions or comments ?

Re: Speed Chips/ IAT SENSOR

I agree with state69champ.

Apparently it's supposed to be on part of that wiring harness under the hood just in front of the cowl. If you buy the chip it should have schematics included, and if not, the dealer you purchase it from should be able to give you some insight, or they'll try to soak you for the installation of that same chip.

It's not a chip on a Dodge. Hypertech sells a programer with it you get more HP and torque how this happens is it changes the air/fuel mixture and the timing. You can do away with the rev limiter and top speed limiter but it cost about $400. and it only works on your truck so you can't sell it

Re: Speed Chips/ IAT SENSOR

look, it's as easy as this:
put a 100K ohm 1/2 watt resistor (radio shack or a tv store) across the terminals of the air temp sensor in the air intake.
Yes it does increase the Air/fuel ratio and makes the computer think you have too much (cold) air.
Warning:
If you live in a colder climate (less than 30 deg F all winter) or have a high altitude mod. don't do it.

Question

So has any one tried this yet. Was just curious. I am looking for more torque. just had a 3" exaust installed now going to add a K&N intake system this weekend. But I think that will not give me much lowend just highend.

Let me know if any one has tried the resister mod or what have you. I've see lots of them on ebay.

Re: Speed Chips/ IAT SENSOR

i wouldnt recommend it. I tried it on my grandam and it threw an engine code and had to rewire the IAT. Waste of money, buy something that will actually work.
