this or that

Going to be looking at 2 FC's with in the end of next week..tell me what one I should or you would pick.

THIS: 1990 NA RX7 - somewhere around 90k, new clutch, good condition - $2500

or

THAT: 1988 rx7 Turbo II - about 130k, needs new clutch(guy said a new clutch would run around $300), good condition other than clutch - $1900

I don't think either one has had an engine rebuild, but I should be getting one of these 2 cars and I have not made up my mind yet. Just trying to see what others think.

thx for your time

unless they were well taken care of, you'll be looking at an engine rebuild either way, and possibly a turbo rebuild. But i would go with the turbo.. if you know how to drive an rx7... if you dont have experience with it, stick with the n/a

chris240, please excuse this ignorant post... pretend it was never here...

THIS with the non turbo at 90k and a new clutch I would highly advise this one if you would like a trouble free car that will drift nicely and has relatively quick acceleration. the clutch is the main problem for non-turbo FC's between 80-100k miles, the only other reacuring problem to note is the wiring, but its not too complicated to fix if you have any electrical experience, or you can take it somewhere and have it fixed for a decent price

and just to note for turboii87rx7, a non-turbo FC will run well over 200k miles with out a rebuild with only normal maintenance, as in fluids and check ups and the like, so you only need a rebuild if its messed up or you want to port it

THAT with the turbo you'll have around 25-30 more horsepower but it is probably in need of a rebuild, but the turbo's should be in decent shape still as long as the car wasn't abused. a clutch will cost 200-300 bucks, just for the clutch, it will cost like 350-450 bucks for labor though, unless ofcourse you do it yourself. the turbo engines have a lot shorter life span than the non-turbo engines

so my choice would be "THIS" just for reliability issues, and future repair costs, but non-turbos don't take well to being turbo'd so if you want a turbo, either get it now, or swap in a TII engine later.

I'd say try and talk down the non-turbo by a few hundred, if it helps you can say you know a guy that paid $2250 for a 91 with 98k miles in good condition(me)

or for the TII, talk them down by saying it will need a rebuild almost immidiately because the TII's don't last long without a rebuild

Re: this or that

thx soyo, you can just call me chris....I was leaning towards the NA more just because its more reliable and i like the minor styling change between the s4 and s5. i also heard the it was hard to find ECU upgrades for a s4 TII, but then again who wouldn't want a turbo in there car.

Yeah, that turbo motor is about to let you down at 130k.

Re: this or that

Go with the N/A.
1 90k
2 new clutch
3 more reliable
I would pick that one, then later on you could do Dayna's SC!!
