98 4.3 Cranks but wont start
Hi Guys (Sorry for long post),
I have a ‘98 S10 4.3 Vortec with 1700 miles on it that I have swapped into an ’82 Jeep CJ7. It was a very slow project and I finally got a chance to start it last weekend (Engine has been out of the truck for 4+ years). It cranks over but will not start. I checked for spark and it was OK, so I dumped raw fuel down the intake and it started right up and ran as long as that fuel lasted and then it will not run again until I dump fuel down the intake again. I checked the fuel pressure and it is 62 PSI at the fuel rail (I am running a brand new fuel pump from an S10 in the Jeep tank). I hooked up an Injector test light to each injector circuit at the Injector harness and cranked the engine; they are firing as they are supposed to. I removed the fuel return line and I am getting plenty of fuel back to the tank. I looked at the signals coming from the ECM and they look OK. The OBD SW I bought says there are no stored Trouble Codes. Under Pending Diagnostic Trouble Codes, there are the following: P700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request) P0011 “A” Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1) I am probably going to pull the injector housing off and check the fuel regulator, but I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas. I got a wiring harness and computer from Speed Scene that was programmed to adapt to the Jeep. Thanks in advance! --Dan |

I pulled off the upper intake manifold and there is absolutely 0 fuel being shot out of the injectors.
Could the fuel Pressure reg be bad? If I let off the key, the pressure at the fuel rail stays at about 55PSI, so I would imaging the fuel regulator is OK. Is there a test you can do to the injectors to test if the relay is openning? I find it hard to believe that all 6 injectors are gummed up.--Dan |

Re: 98 4.3 Cranks but wont start
could be the regulator you need 61-66psi for the injectors to open and spray.
