Jimmy Flintstone Fiat topolino, working with resin and other Q's
Ok, well as some who would have read my other thread would have picked out, I'm on a mission for a 30's Fiat Topolino to build into a rod.
I found a Jimmy Flintstone resin version, which is an altered dragster shell, but I'm not toooo fussed since a) I only need the firewall/windshield back, and b) it will be fairly modified.. which leads to my next questions. Is resin as workable as styrene? what special glues, tools, putty, primers etc do I need? Can I use styrene in conjunction with the resin body easily enough? it has a cloth roof I need to fill, it has no dash, firewall, or inner rear fenders, so I need to fabricate all of those, as well as filling the spare wheel well on the back. I had planned to fabricate the neccessary parts in styrene. I plan to make the windows in clear styrene or polycarbonate. Thankfully the jimmy flintstone body is unchopped height wise which helps! Heres what I'm planning: -Resin fiat body, filled roof, filled spare wheel well, rear rolled pan. flat black. Shortened anglia van grille. -Chassis would be modified (shortened, narrowed) A model or '32 , and suspension. Considering also ripping components from anglia van gasser kit. -Not sure on wheels, probably torq thrusts or steels, maybe minilites. I'd REALLY like to get spindlemount torq's for the front and steels for the back but don't know if they are available.or even wide 14" steels If I can find resin or styrene 60's style steel wheels. -R&MCoM finned drum brakes -Tyres? possibly R&MCoM wide Dirt trackers on the rear, maybe narrow ones for the fronts too. Or anglia gasser parts. -Halibrand rear diff (probably resin) -custom interior with 60's style race seats and steering wheel, manual shifter, minimal neccessary detail (won't be opening doors or anything), maybe a metal dash fascia to simulate an aluminium one, gauges will probably have to be custom. -Engine I'm not totally sure yet, and I want to do something interesting... Heres the options I'm considering: -Resin chrysler slant six with triple weber sidedraughts -Revell Datsun 510 L16 motor - period correct for late 60's, VERY different in hot rod terms.. -SR311 Fairlady engine, if any of the kits come with one. -2T-G toyota by sakatsu -S20 nissan six from Hakosuka kit. This is going to be a massive, extremely long term project for me. whaddya reckon?

Re: Jimmy Flintstone Fiat topolino, working with resin and other Q's
I think you should have continued this in your other thread,
But Working with resin, Wear a mask when sanding ans so on, glue with epoxy or super glue, it must be washed very very well prior to working with it to remove the mold release, THe revell 32 Ford would be a great donor kit for the chassis and possibly the wheels |
