93 s10 blazer with stupid transmission

okay so i replaced my 93 jimmy with a 93 blazer. glutton for punishment?

anyway, tranny shifts almost immediately into the highest gear available (i.e. 3 in d and 4 in o/d) upon acceleration. also, it will not 'kick-down' on acceleration either. i can shift it manually and i'm fine, but that kinda defeats the 'auto' part of it don't it?

also, don't know if it is related, but the shifter mechanism seems to be out of adjustment. the transmission stops are out of alignment with the shifters, making manual shifting a pain anyway. and i can't get it all the way down to 1 so i'm starting in 2 all the time.

all i've tried so far is the throttle position sensor. and i should say that i am using my '93 jimmy as a donor for a lot of this stuff. guess the replacement could also be bad, but my jimmy displayed no such wacky behaviour before it's tranny blew out the 3/4 clutches and then got hit and then had the abs die and then.... well, you get the picture.

anyway, any help would be appreciated. i am mechanically adept, but it's been many years since i played with cars, and all this alphabet soup of sensors and such is new to me, so please be specific, if possible.

the good news is i do have a donor to try some different things so....

thanks in advance...

You should adjust your shift cable so your PRNDL displays according to the gear to start with

thanks. i'll get out there today and start digging to find out how to do this. can't be THAT hard....

now if i can just figure out the 'transmission doesn't know how to shift' problem, i'd be fine. maybe it just lost it's mind. perhaps some counseling or a therapist or something....

anyway, thanks for the reply. nice to not be COMPLETELY ignored... :-)

thanks again...

Are you sure the tranny is good?? The last time I dealt with a problem like this was with a TH350. Tore it apart and some major pieces broken in there. Not suggesting at all that yours is bad but getting the cable adjusted would be a first step. Are the 93's electronic?? My 99 is so a lot of my shifting is computer controlled.

LOL

well then...

looked for transmission 'cable' to adjust linkage. found nothing but a hard linkage from the steering column down. i couldn't make out any way to adjust this linkage... am i missing something?

the good news...

i did a comp reset (i.e. took the neg off the battery for a while) and now the tranny's brain is BACK!!!! yeah!!! shifts perfectly. who knew?

i would have tried it earlier but never dreamed my transmission woes could be solved by 'ctrl-alt-del' . this automotive era is a strange one...

thanks for all the help....
