Exclamation Urgent, help! Starter died? On side of road

Howdy all-

I hope everyone is doing well tonite.
My tacoma's starter? died tonite
It made a weird noise when it started, like a belt was slipping....
I turned off the key... and the starter was still trying to start the engine.
So, I ,JUMPED OUT, and disconected the pos cable on the batt.
I lift it off for 20 sec, hoping it would reset?
BUT, it did not.
So it is sitting on the side of the road waiting for a new starter?????

First, how much is this going to cost?
Second, will I be able to do this on the side of the road?
Third, I still love my truck. 100k+ this is the first real prob ive had with it

I'd app any help or advice.
Thanks and God bless

A starter on a manual transmission is fairly straightforward to swap out. I don't know about an automatic. You could definitely do it on the side of the road. (on a manual trans)
