Turbo Charger for Sierra?

Hi I am looking to buy a turbocharger for a 2000 GMC Sierra 4.8 liter engine. But I am not quite sure as to what turbo I should get or if there are even any out for my truck. If anybody could help me out that would be great.




Any info on what I would need to do this would be great seeing as i am new to this.

I'm not aware of any specific turbo kits for your truck, but I'm sure many shops would be willing to do the grunt work, for the right price. Lingenfelter Performance has added forced induction to just about every GM vehicle produced, so you might ask them about it. I know they make supercharged Sierras that run low 13s. They had a full-size truck of some sort running in the 10s, but I don't remember what it was.

You've got one of the less common turbo apps, so you're going to have to do some searching. Don't worry; if you're serious, it'll all be worth it in the end.

If the specs on the engine are known, and the power wanted after turbo converting it it would not be that difficult to find a turbocharger that would do the job.

Exactly what specs of my engine would be needed to figure out what turbo might fit my truck. Also i was reading, where do turbochargers usally kick in I thought I saw around 3000rpm and someplace else i saw at redline so could someone please clear this up for me.

The air consumption of the engine must be estimated, this can be done from the power output or from displacement, rpm and VE.

The configuration of the engine must also be known as this affects the number of turbochargers than should be used (a V engine often calls for two turbochargers for example).

Where the turbochargers kicks in depends, usually from some above idle to half the maximum engine speed. When the size of the turbocharger increase the rpm that the turbocharger "kicks in" will be higher but with a larger turbocharger more power can be made.
