question is how hard is it? any special tools i need? anyone have a step by step on how to do it?

Re: squikei belt! 2001 ford taurus ses

Is it the 24v engine, or the 12v? Basically it's the same concept, but the 24v is a little tighter in the engine bay, making it a little more difficult to maneuver the belt into place.

Basically:

Using a 15mm wrench, release the tension from the tensioner, and remove the belt. When installing, I find it easier to thread the belt around all but the top pulley, release the tensioner again, and then slide the belt over the top pulley. It's not really all that hard to do, and there's a sticker on the underside of the hood that shows the belt routing, should you forget (I always do).

Thumbs down $400 !!! for a belt?

If someone wants to charge you $400.00 to change a serpentine belt, they might try to sell you the brooklyn bridge too! Lol It should only be about $150.00 to have it changed, including the price of the belt.

yeah well my wife took it in and thats what they told her. I thought it was pretty high myself but hey I'm no mechanic!

i looked under the hood. there is no diagram to show you how to put it on. so i might pick up a Chilton's. that way i can also do other little things without worrying!

thanks everyone!

Question 2000 Taurus w/24 v 3.0 belt routing

Can anyone help? I need to change the serpentine belt on my 2000 Taurus w/ 24 v Duratech engine but don't have a routing diagram. The routing is different than a standard 3.0 engine.
