4 spd automatic 03 maxima

Can I drive my 4spd automatic like a standard without
hurting the transmission as long as I don't redline.
I like to start off the line in 1rst then put in 2nd with
my foot still on the gas , will that hurt my trans?

I believe the 2003 Maxima is a 5 speed automatic, and Yes it will hurt the Transmission if you do it enough times. I know what you mean though. Some times I just drop it into second and hit the gas. There is definetly a difference but unfortunately we have to live with the fact that our cars are automatic.

Re: 4 spd automatic 03 maxima

Yes, he is correct the Maxima does have a 4 speed auto trans and a 6 speed manual trans.

Here read this: http://www.new-cars.com/2003/nissan/...ima-specs.html

The new Maxima 2004 comes with a 5 speed auto trans.

Re: 4 spd automatic 03 maxima

Will it hurt the tranny if he lets off the gas between "shifts"?

Why would it hurt if he let off the tranny between shifts? Did you hear something that is supposed to be bad about doing this?

If you change gears in an auto or a manual at full throttle it "slams" the transmission which will take its toll rather quickly. I was wondering if it better if you let off the gas during the shift the same way you would when you shift in a manual. But for added info to georgez83, if you want to drive that way (shift at full throttle) you will probably need to upgrade your transmission. I have a friend that races a 72 firebird that way.
