real defintion of "riding" the clutch

i think that people have some misconceptions of what riding the clutch is. it's mostly me, but it can help other's as well. any input is welcome

Keeping your foot slightly on the clutch pedal so that it only slightly engages, causing a ton of friction and added wear.

not really, the more gas you apply, the quicker you can release the clutch.

for a perfectly working clutch, riding the clutch involves allowing the clutch to slip when it is unnecessary.

sometimes you have to ride the clutch in order to have a smooth engagement. ex. going up hill from a stop.
