Question Change Headlight bulbs?

I have a 2001 Pontian grand Prix SE. Is there a well known trick on how to replace the bulbs in the headlights? I looked at where they plug-in, but without removing the air-filter box you can't really get to one of the bulbs. Any tricks out there to make the replacement on both headlight bulbs easier?

Removing the bulbs isn't that hard anyways. Removing the whole assembly requires just taking out a couple of screws. Make sure you slip the plastic flap back in the correct spot when reinstalling otherwise the screwholes won't line up.

Thanks for the info. I replaced the lights this weekend, and was a piece of cake.

Re: Change Headlight bulbs?

I plan on putting Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in my '99 GTP. I'd also like to have the Silverstar fogs, too. Speaking of fogs, is there an easy way to change those bulbs without having to remove the fog light assembly? My dad says it can be done from the back, but I can't get far enough under the car to see what I'm doing. Should I just wait until time for my oil change and let one of the guys at the dealership change it for me while it's up on the rack?

Re: Change Headlight bulbs?

Just park the car with one wheel on the sidewalk and you would have enough space to change the fog lights. is just a twist away, I used to take out the assembly but after parking the car on the sidewalk is a breeze ad you do not loose allignment.

Sliverstars are really cool/white. But also try the Xenon bulbs. They look blueish like the import car hid light systems

Re: Change Headlight bulbs?

One problem, Kilroy. I live out in the sticks in rural Alabama. We don't have sidewalks.

And the bluish ones are okay, but I don't really like them, I want white lights. That's why I chose the silverstars.

Re: Change Headlight bulbs?

I can crawl under the car if the car is at a leveled surface. If you can not reach them with the car on a leveled position all you have to do is try to make the car lift a little like parking ir at the very end of a semi step hill so the bumper really is away from the surface where you are going to lay on. Then reach to the back of the fog and twist counterclockwise the cable with socket to take it out of the housing

Re: Change Headlight bulbs?

You need some rhino ramps Gtpgirl. They are pretty cheap at autozone. Like $25 bucks or so iirc.

I put in a vote for Silverstars for the headlights. I love mine and they put the PIAA crap to shame as far as casting light on the road.

Re: Change Headlight bulbs?

I just bought Philips Blue Vision. I've seen several comparisions between them, the Osram Silverstars and others and both the Osram and the Philips are always on top, with comparable results. Not only are they whiter in light, they are also much brighter and colour neutral. Some of these pseudo Xenons from China did so freaking bad in the tests, that they were way worse than stock bulbs, emitting red and green light, although looking blueish like "real" xenons. But what I like the most was the price I got for four Blue Visions (two 9007 HB5 for the GP and two 9006 for my Buick): $44.00 at bulbs.com including shipping. Compare this to nearly 40 bucks in the Wal-Mart for only two Silverstars.

Sorry djstifft we prefer that you not resurrect old threads. This one is over two years old. However, feel free to make a new thread/post to share your information.
