Question Car sputtering in higher rpms only??

Well just when I thought everything was running right on my CRX it came back again. I got a good feeling it's the distributor, I have a brand new one coming Friday, but I still would like to know what the problem is incase it isn't my dizzy. I was checking the cap out and I posted before that I discovered that my wires before they connect to the crank angle sensor plug were spliced and soldered together. I taped them up really good so they werent touching each other. My rotor is fairly new and the metal plate in the middle of the rotor is straight out burnt black and so is the coil. I figured it's normal cause it shoot electricity back and forth. Anyways, no matter how long I let my car warm up, I'll lay on the gas or not lay on it, but soon as it hits about 4,000rpms it'll start jerking and the rpm needle will fly around all the way to the redline even though I'm not redlining. I'm just guessing this cause the crank sensors sets the fuel timing doesn't it? I'm just guessing maybe it's sparking or sending fuel at the wrong time or either my dizzy internals are bad. Any idears?

Mine did that before, started at 5k, then 4k then 3k, turned out to be my coil, also check the connectors ont the ignition module, sometimes they come loose.

Re: Car sputtering in higher rpms only??

Exact thing happened to me. It was the distributor. I could go up to 3.5-4k rpm's and after that it was like a show the tach put on, moving up and down and up and down, it was crazy.

I had the same trouble. At first, I replaced the rotor in the distributor. Then I replaced the coil.
Finally, I got another distributor and put my new coil and rotor in it. Fired up after some cranking.

PS-And although this sounds totally wrong for a fuel-injected car, it had been sitting for a couple of weeks, and I had to hold the gas pedal down to get it to start the first time...
