Question Heating cooling control's

Ok here's one for ya, I have a 91 2500, at times the digital display on the dash for the heating /cooling stay's on even after I shut the truck off. this has been an intermitant problem since I have owned the truck (5 yrs) for the most part I can kill it by turning on the controls, say to the floor etc, or if I kick in a power drain such as turning the head lights on then off, etc. It's just one of those quirks I cant figure and would like to fix, just as the windshield wipers once were.
Anyone with a similar problem ?
And any ideas woulde be greatly apreciated.

Re: Heating cooling control's

i bet it's the ignition switch. check the orange wire at the switch it supplies power to the h-vac system. or try unplugging the switch and see if the problem goes away. if theres power at the orange wire when the key's off either the switch is sticking or the ignition rods might be bent. good luck!!

Amac209, I guess FuzzyPuppy is talking about the digital display on the dash for the heating/cooling which stays on even if he shut the truck off.

its been awhile since i've been able to get back to the site to read post and hopefully figure this out, been dealing with teenager prob's,
I will check the ignition switch again, I had before figuring that this was the source of the prob, but it seemsa a more through check is in order.
at first i thought it may be a lose ground, so as i put a drain on the elec system i pull ground from another source, ???/ hummm just an abstract thought, any how yes it is the digital display for the heat/cooling controls, but the strange thing is, if i hit the switch to go from cool to heat i hear the valve opening and closing, and this is not enough drain to shut down the digital display, but if i turn on the headlights for a moment, or say hit the switch to turn on my window defroster, off the disoplay goes, the really bad part is i have killed my batt several times forgetting to make sure the digital display goes off. lol. and usualy at the worst times, kid late for ROTC drill etc.
but thanks for the info on the orange wire i will run the diagnos, asap and will post results, plus being as stuborn as i am i think im gonna have another look around for a grounding problem, (its just a feeling), then tackel the stereo going dim at higher volumes.
At the moment i'am in the process of adding a second deep cycle batt system. as well as a large inverter under the hood. funny how there seems to be so much room under the hood till you go to add some things. then it seems as tight as trying to put a small block in a vega.
