service engine soon light is on

Hello,
I am new here and I have just got a 99 chevy suburban LT k1500
and I have had to replace the battery and the alternator. The alt was bad and it killed my battery. Know the service engine soon light will not go off. Is it because of the replaced parts or could there be another problem? Can some one help me?

Thanks,
Angela

could be almost anything. you'll have to get the codes pulled with an obdII scantool. autozone will do this for free. most shops will charge about an hour for diagnostic time.

My code was a ERg valve. Mechanic told me he had to replace it and 'decabonize' something or other, which sounded bogus, but I haven't had any problems since. Cost me about $300.
