Alright, now your missing the point.

I spent 5k on the z28 and 5k on over 300hp of mods. I know the general rule is 100hp per $1000, but some body work has been done also. Now of course a Viper starts with 500hp, but who the hell has 80k? I have had a '86 Iroc that I bought for 1000 and when I was done with it, it ran a 13.5 1/4m. I had '74 with same story. I am just sick of these kids with brand new civics, m3s, lancers, ect... who think they are fast. Someone tell me a more cost efficient way to build a fat car than to drop a 350 into any old muscle car and throw a blower on it or a supercharger.

Re: Alright, now your missing the point.

I think your missing the point. These guys that your bashing love there cars as much as you love yours. To each his own. I think it's pretty damn impressive what some of these people do to there rice burners to get what they get out of them. And you shouldn't have to spend 1000 for a hundred hp. Bone stock 350 from a 70 camaro pushed about 190hp at the wheels so we'll say 290 at the crank. victor junior intake, holley 750 carb, $500 head job comperable to the victor jr heads, complete valve train swap now you have 500+hp and you spent maybe 2grand. Use your head when your building an engine. If you let me loose on 5 grand for an engine that I already have the block, and I'll give you 800+hp period.

I don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way...

First off I don't necessarily agree that all of those guys [that sbaltys is/was bashing] love those cars like we love our's. I know a lot of people that have daily driving cars and they purchase an old Civic Coupe, Hatch, CRX etc JUST to beef it up and get on the streets to race. I dunno why they do it! I've seen some really great looking cars, and some super fast drag cars but they don't do it for 'sport' or for the love of the game as they say, its as though they're trying to proove something to someone. Now when it comes to higher end cars such as M3's, AMG'd Mercedes', Porsche etc thats a completely different area of the spectrum. I have to say that those vehicles are a unique balance of performance and luxuary, something you won't necessarily find in a less expensive vehicle (or as some say a 'lower class' vehicle. pfft, lower class my ass). I'm sure 85% of the folks that own those cars own them for "good" reasons (as in they love the car, collecting etc), the other 15% of them probably own them because they want to have a high-end, luxuary, sports car that can spank most every day vehicles. You can't possibly tell me that they ALL love their cars like us!

Second, you need to come to my place and rip my car a new tail pipe! I'll give you two to three large and you can have at it!

i'm not a big fan of beefed up imports either, but hey it's there money. i dont have a problem with anyone that try's to make there car look decent and so on. although i do get a little anoyed at the punks that drive around wal-mart primered ricers with a trash can muffler and tell me that there car is so much faster. it doesn't matter how fast your car is, there's always going to be someone out there with a faster car, that's why i dont brag about how fast my vehicles go. i build cars and motors for the pride of knowing that i built it

Now I can agree with you, or disagree, depends on which you are refering to. If you mean the people with the M3's and Porsches, then yeah I think they do ALL love their cars as much as Camaro lovers, or they would hav't shelled out that large!! amount of money. But if you mean the "lower end" cars, then I agree, cause the grand or two they put out for either a daily driver/beater, then no I don't think they love them. But then some do, and wish they could elope...

Re: Alright, now your missing the point.

Is $5K for 300HP too much, I think it's about right consider he prolly had to put in engine-back exhuast, which could run 1K-2K, leaving the balance to rebuild the engine for FI and a supercharger... I'm not supporting an asshole I'm just looking objectively.
And I know DEFINITELY that most ricers dont love their cars. I like to have fun w/ mine, but have you SEEN the way they drive... they can't possibly love it or they would treat it like that. Most of 'em I know litterally beat the ever living shit outta their little RR [RiceRocket]. Then they say I drive like granny because my car doesn't shudder w/ every shift. I don't get it.

Re: Alright, now your missing the point.

Well I love my car and I drive it like I stole it. But yes, 5 grand for 300hp is way to much. If your just putting an exaust and a supercharger on it then your cheating and in the end going to pay more to replace the engine that you blew up. If he's just going to put a blower on it and spend 3 grand on that, and get a "cat back" system that's going to choke his "built" engine and all in all spend 5 grand. What ever. If you think that's cool check this out. Take a good vergine 350 with heads from a junk yard-$50 bucks. 250hp Premium piston kit with rings, bearings, gaskets, and 10:1 pistons-$350 350hp good set of double spring valve springs with lockers, keepers, and valve seels-$200 2.05/1.6 .100 long valves-$320 450hp Edelbrock victor jr intake-$215 holley 750 carb-$277 custom ground cam 600/600 valve lift 254/256 duration @.050 110 separation-$160 from midway performance Roahds lifters-$90 true roller rockers-$300 $750 in machine work. 550hp give or take. Total-$2192Or instead of the piston kit you can get a completely balance rotating assy from powerhouse for about a grand balanced. 600hp with 11:1 compression Total-$2842 For exhuast, headers_$125 mufflers-$146 Pipe-$40 $3153 Just over 3 grand and I built a 600+ hp engine. I can throw some nitrous on it, get a custom ram air lid, good filters, rear end gear, chassis strengtheners, and a couple tanks of gas, get 800hp and still not have spent 5 grand.
