what a weekend

boy what a weekend..well more like sunday

we get a call at 5 from one of my grandma's friends saying that she is haveing a very hard time beather and they think they should take her to the ER. So my dad drives in (40 miles way) to see whats up. He gets there and she is FINE, but she starts *****ing at him for this that and the other thing.

So he comes home. Now at 11pm we get another call from the same friend and they have called the resuce squad and took her to the ER, because she called them sayhing that she couldn't breath and wouldn't spend another night in the house alone. So they admitted her, and my dad drove in.

long story short. she has congestive heart failure, and does not take her meds right. She has a water pill that she is supposed to take to reduce the amount of fuild that is produced becausef of the congestive heart failure. They have taken sense last night over 2 liters of fuild out from around her heart and lungs. Which is cause for the troubled beathing, which had she taken her meds right..not have happened.

did i mention she is 90 years old? i find this as a great example of how amazeing the human body is. No matter how baddly you punish it, it will keep you alive. That famous german stubborness is most definty in her genes.

we've considered trying to put her in a nursing home, but i really don't see that happening. we tired it before in 1996 and it was just horriable, and we cannot put her in there aganst her will. it'll be an intersting few days to see what ends up happening.

*i hope this doesn't fall under the 'useless thread thing'. if so..sorry.

Not useless at all. Serious problems suck. And they happen at the worst times usually. Years and years ago when my grandpa was on his death bed, I don't know how many times I would go to sleep and in the morning my mom would not be there b/c she got a call in the middle of the night. It happened several times before he passed. Best of luck to you and your family.

I understand the stress you and your family is going through my grandfather is 81 and is having "difficulties" he lives alone and will never go to a nursing home but he is getting to the point where he needs supervised care. Tough decisions ahead. Hope all is well with your grandma

Shortbus, thats were we are. only we have "Homeinstead" helping her. Its for a few hours every day and they sit and keep her company, cook and clean i think it has helped a lot.

we also think that if we put her in to a home the shock of it and the fact she wouldn't do what she is supposed to do would kill her in about 6 weeks.

Know how you feel. My husband's grandma was recovering from hip surgery when she had a heart attack last week. For a while we were scared she was not going to make it. We're hoping she will be here to meet her first great-grand baby, (I'm due anytime now).
Fortunately she has pulled through and is doing better for now.

My dad's mom finally had to put herself into a "Assisted living facility" because she is legally blind in both eyes from Macular degeneration. She's adapted fairly well, since she could keep her cat. It's not hear ideal living situation, but she has made friends and is dealing with it.

My mom's mom on the other hand has a service that sounds like what your grandmother has, Marc. It's tough. She fell during a snowstorm about 3 weeks ago and broke one of her shoulders (which has been fully replaced before this, I should comment). She just called us this past weekend to tell us even though our "spy" told us weeks ago. She's got the Russian-stubborns BIG TIME. She won't take any help and she's FIERCELY independant. I won't rant on any further at this time, but I really do feel for you.

I knwo what that is like. I just lost my grandmother about 2 weeks ago for something along the same lines. She had triple bypass urgrey, and refused to do her excersies when she was in the hosipital and later when she was in the rehab center, along with taking her water pills. her lungs ended up getting filled with fluid and she basically drowned. thats the second family member I've lost this year, and may lose another two later this year due to health problems as well.
