Question Does not move

OK, here is the deal. First, i am not really good in cars. I have 1993 Grand Am SE, V6 3300, a/t, 89235 mi. When I put my car in Drive or Reverse and let go off the brake, the car stays in one place and does not move. Unlike other cars I have driven start to move slowly even when you dont press the accelerator.
I am not sure if it is soposed to be like this or if its a problem with something?
