After 20 years of dreaming of owning a truck, I finally did it - I got myself a 2004 Silverado 2500HD LS Duramax 4x4 CrewCab short bed.
Now slowly finding places that I can tweek. I've found (through ebay search) a place about 40 minutes away from my hose that sells wheel-to-wheel 3" chrome tubular step bar for $300 out-to-door. Installed it, looks great. Was considering Line-x the back, but after seeing some other trucks with over-the-rail spray ons, I begin to have doubes. So I found my self a used DuraLiner for $120, pretty good deal. Now comes to the Entertainment Systems. I am planning to install a 15" flip-down LCD screen with DVD player. The AM/FM/CD head unit have a button says "CD/AUX" which lead me to believe there is a way to install "Aux" devices. So I did some search and found this: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundauxgm.html I wonder if any of you have experience with this product? Does it work as they advertised? There are too many other things I am thinking, but I don't want to make the CFO (wife) too upset. Gaylord cover, bigger wheels, Reese adjustable tow hitch bar, tail light grill protector, sliding rear window, XM receiver, leather uphalstery (my local dealer says he can do all chairs for $950, I guess I wait until the cloth fabric wears out).... Man I tell you, I love this truck, the Duramax is very quiet, the feel of power under my control is unbelievable. Can wait to tow something heavy in the back - like a fishing boat. |

Where are your doubts on the Line-x. My Dad just bought the same truck and was looking into line-x/rhino. Any input?

Re: New owner 2500hd durmax 4x4 crew cab short bed
I have seen one truck with "over the rail" line-x, where the cut line just don't look right. It may be just poor workmanship, but since its spray on, its ilreversible. If you ran into a line-x shop with poor workmanship, you are stuck, and cannot do anything about it. JMO.

RedOx,
Congratulations on you new ride! The Duramax is awesome! If you haven't purchased your running boards yet you want to consider J&J Millimium Boards. I have a set on my 03 Dmax/Alli CrewCab. They are a little pricey but nice -top quality 100% stainless steel. I have made a few other mods to mine too - ( see pics ). Also, if you haven't already, check out two good Duramax sites ... TheDieselPage.com and the TheDieselPlace.com. ![]() Bill Last edited by WGP; 04-17-2004 at 07:09 AM. |

Re: New owner 2500hd durmax 4x4 crew cab short bed
I just had a Line-X liner sprayed in my '04 2500HD Crew SB and I went over the rails. My dealer did a great job and the edges are perfect. My only problem is that the material is like sandpaper, so it scratches you up when you load stuff over the sides. At least it's not slick, though, like the plastic drop-ins.

I was just at Best Buy and they have DVD player with jacks for xbox or whatever. This comes with TWO screens that are built into the back headrests. They will custom make the headrests to be exactly like your trucks, so that if you sell, you can keep the DVD. The price is very reasonable. I am in Cleveland, Ohio where I saw this. It is something worth looking at if you are in the market.

Re: New owner 2500hd durmax 4x4 crew cab short bed
On my 90 Step side that I just sold I did a sprayin liner called Bullhide it was GREAT after 10 years it still looked great, stuff didn't slide around, spills cleaned up easy and I could throw anything in the back and not hurt the liner or the bed, I didn't go over the side rails because I had a fiberglass Ralley cover on it, this stuff isn't sanded like the Line-X so it didn't scratch things up
