I can't believe how many times this forum goes through this topic and still people can't accept the truth.
![]() You can drift in an FF car. Using the handbrake is NOT drifting. Yanking the wheel and booting the accelerator is not drifting, its powersliding. Drift begins (in the purest racing, pre-D1, non show style sense) at the corner ENTRY. NOT at the apex. The driver brakes during turn in which helps shorten the braking distance and incorperates some braking into the corner entry process and also unloads the rear tires. The sideways momentum of the car causes the rear tires to slide and the turning angle of the car increases. If done exceptionally well the driver can plant his foot (in an FR) and neutral steer the rest of the corner. In an FF the driver can brake even deeper, especially into hairpins or tightening corners and use the drift effect to enter the tighter section faster and exit at a greater speed. In a racing sense an FF car can use drift just as effectively as an FR car. FF cars can't "drift" in the D1 sense because that is powerslide oriented and makes less use of weight transition and braking. If I made the rules for D1 you wouldn't be able to use the handbrake. Tell me I'm not right. Go on. What's the reason this time? No-one ever provide reasons why an FF car can't drift, just why it can't powerslide. A car could have only both the left hand wheels only driven and it could still be drifted because drift occurs predominantly under braking. The reason no-one regards your definition of "drift" very highly is because there isn't any skill to it. As far as I have seen only about 10% of FR "drifters" can actually drift. The skill level is much higher in FF drivers because they can't powerslide, they have to resort to advanced methods. Namely actual drifting. Finally, there are 2 things that CAN NOT initiate a drift. 1. The handbrake. This is clumsy, destabilises the car, and is slower on a circuit. 2. The throttle pedal. That's called a powerslide. P O W E R S L I D E . . . Drift was invented to gain the advantage in the braking zones and at the turn in in racing. NOT to make smoke. A certain Sir Jack Brabham and later a guy called Gilles Villenueve, the great number 27, both used drift to gain the advantage. And all when Mr. Tsuchiya the "Drift King" was but a boy. No credit taken from the man though, he's a wonderful exponent of drift on a racetrack too. I think a new name is required for what we see in D1, it's a combination of drift and powersliding. Maybe "POWERDRIFT" or something else that doesn't confuse it with the great artform.

ya i agree with that last post, it'll happen just wait, and even after reading this i still dont think ff can drift, before anyone ever new of the word drift, they considered it a powerslide, they also considered a fr powersliding too, but drifting fr style is different in a way that it is more complex, wen the powerslides were used, it could only last a second or two, now that fr drift has been found out, it can last longer, not sure how much longer because i've never seen the limit reached, but its longer. but when an ff can 'drift' its the same thing as what a powerslide was back then, so if the ff powerslide, and the ff drift are the same, then there must not be any ff drift at all.
that was really fucked up im not even sure what i typed but i guess uh yeah.

This post is totally pointless.
The majority of the FF "Drifters" are ricer bandwagon jumpers who want to use their old hatch instead of buying and building a drift car. They want to believe that their momentary loss of rear traction is drifting SO BADLY that no matter what you say, and what they do, they will call what they are doing drifting. The problem isnt in the technique, its in the wording... Drifting is a new fad, and they are jumping on the bandwagon, so they want to use the name drift, and take offense to the term *** dragging. Thats why people keep asking and posting definitions of "drifting." |

Everything just depends on a person's definition of drift. I own an MR-2, 240SX and Nissan hardbody, have never owned an FF in my life, but I don't deny FF can drift. If you think powersliding is the only way to drift then front wheel drive obviously can't do it.. it just all depends on what's drifting to you.

Old topic, nothing new being posted, you know how we feel about this sort of junk. As of yet, I've never seen a single "bandwagon jumper" with a riced out civic come in here and claim FF can drift, all I've seen are RWD elitests attempt to perpetuate the myth that FF can't drift. It gets old, and we already have too many of those types of threads.
