How long does one have to wait to get the Chilton's or Haynes Manual for a car model? (specifically this one).

Re: Chilton's OR Haynes for 2001 Taurus
If it's not a flex fuel, Autozone has them. It covers 96-01.

Re: Chilton's OR Haynes for 2001 Taurus
I need to go look at that book. On the cover it shows the wrong body style. So I am a little leary of it. While I have a preference for chilton's I do find hanyes useful.
Thanks, Russell |

Re: Chilton's OR Haynes for 2001 Taurus
Most of the items are the same from 96-01, some things changed though. Mostly intake design, etc. Nothing really major that would make the book useless to you though. The only thing I find with the Haynes, in this case, is that they focus a lot on the Vulcan, and state the Duratec is similar. The Duratec is not similar, save for the fact that it's a V6, and in a Taurus. Other than that, it's a completely different animal.
The basics are thorough though (brakes, etc), and at about $12, it's not a bad deal.

I guess you caught me on that one. With the 3.0L not DOHC. Do I have the Vulcan or Duratec?

Oh, sorry about that. The 3.0 OHV (the one you have) is the Vulcan.

Re: Chilton's OR Haynes for 2001 Taurus
Bob,
maybe you can help me with this item. This car has those high dollar electoric security keys. I guess they keep crooks from taking your car. However, the dealer seems to get what the crooks leave. I've been qouted from $88 to $150 for one key. Since I only have one at this point for the car. I need a couple more. Is there a way around having to pay so much for them? Thanks, Russell |

Re: Chilton's OR Haynes for 2001 Taurus
Bob, I purchased the haynes manual today. I prefer Chilton's but they are not out yet. Thanks for the tip.
