My Car Gets Hot When Is Idling

I Have Replaced My Radiator, Water Pump, Thermostat. I Have No Leaks Whatsoever And Can't Think Of Anything Else That May Be Causing My Car To Get When I'm At A Red Light Or Just Parked With The Car On. The Temperature Goes Down When I Run The Car, The Faster I Run The Lower The Temp. Gets. Anyone Has Any Ideas What May Be Causing This Problem????? And How To Fix It???

This may be a stupid question, but do your fans run? That pretty much described my old Grand Prix when I had a bad radiator fan motor. Could be as simple as a loose connection or someone forgetting to hook it back up after changing out the radiator.

you have a v8, sitting with any v8 would cause the temp to rise. dont worry about it unless your really close to redlining. mine does it.

Aluminum engines get really hot really quickly but disappate heat just as fast.

Just hot hot does it get under there and when you drive does it drop back just below 200F? If so your stock 180 T stat is doing fine...

That being said, when you replaced the t-stat? did it get replaced with another 180?

I have noticed my temperature gauge goes up quite a bit when sitting and then goes down when moving again. That makes total sense.

Hello Aurora Drivers:

I know this sounds funny, but did you alllow your system to burb. Run the car with the coolant lid off and allow theextra air in the system to get out. I had problems with cooling until I did this.

Please change and flush system every 25,000 miles or once a year also helps

temp on aurora will run about 220-230 at idle fans come on at about 228 there are 2 coolant by pass hoses at coolant tank take them loose see if u can blow through them with dex cool they will stop up and air will not get blead out of system also guages will sometimes read off a little

Does your car have the front fascia intact? Believe it or not, that makes about a 10 to 20 degree temperature difference. My Aurora runs a tad under 200 during normal operating conditions (i.e. outside temp under 75 degrees). Over that, or sitting idling in traffic, it can go up to 220-240...

Has anyone rigged up the cooling to fans to come on at lower temps? 228 is pretty high esp with a stock 180 T-stat. Our upper intakes are plastic and that damn upper intake failure that effects L36 (Series II NA 3800's scares the hell out of me). I have yet to hear this as a prob on L47's (4.0L Aurora V8's) but still......

I wouldn't worry about it. My car seems to run at 200 degrees when I am going down the highway at a nice speed. But if I am caught up in traffic, it runs at about 220 or 230. (At about the 3/4 line.) It's just a big engine and I guess it is to be expected. Don't worry too much about it overheatting. Supposedly the engine is suppose to shut down 4 cylinders if you run out of coolant and use 4 cylinders as air pockets to cool the engine. I have never tested that theory and would rather not but if you are not leaking coolant, then your temp (I believe) is just fine. Auroras are nutorious for running hot though.
