Question ETS AND ABS light on. Any thoughts?

Hey all,
I hope someone can give some direction here. My GF's 99 Sedan started showing the ABS and ETS OFF light while we driving back from Edmonton. Any idea where to start looking? I haven't checked the relays or fuses yet. Also, can the OBD codes be read w/o a reader? My jeep could do it. Thanx in Advance.

you'll probably have to get gm to scan it. most obd 2 readers don't do anything with abs codes. most likely one or more wheel speed sensors are contaminated with metal particles or have broken wires. get it scanned . guesswork sucks.

Re: ETS AND ABS light on. Any thoughts?

Update: Went to the dealer and for the ETS/ABS thing and for the ignition recall. $25 later and it seems that the wiring is OK but the L/H rear sensor is intermittant. The mechanic advised waiting until it hard failed. The lights haven't shown up since then, and I'm hoping it was only a bit of metal dust that has since cleared off....Oh, $C 330.57 for a new wheel sensor and hub assembly. Is there any way of changing the sensor w/o swapping hubs? BTW, thanx amac209 for the advice.

Got the same prob...Only way to fix this is to replace the rear hub assembly...or pull the fuse for the ETS...ABS should still keep working...The ETS sensor is integrated into the rear hub therefore, nothing can be done about it....the fronts...that's another story....check to see if they are clean...but once the back ones go ...around 150K you're looking to replace them unfortunately....

Usually the ABS light will come on when the ETS is malfunctioning as a safety precaution...disabling the ABS...usually there's NOTHING wrong with the abs..just the Traction Sensors...

Good Luck!
