1999 Wont Start, Going Nutz HELP ASAP PLEASE
Ok I have a 1999 Jeep cherokee sport. Yesterday I got in it to move it down ther driveway and the battery was DEAD as a DOORNAIL. I mean so dead it wouldnt even open the powerlocks. I didnt notice any doors open no lights on just dead?? weird. Ok so I hooked it up to my charger and it wouldnt start right away cause it was so dead. so I left it for about 5 hours. and Hoped in it and it started right up but i had to pump the gas to get it up and running then it ran fine. OK So then this morning I hoped in it to follow my wife to church and it Wouldnt start it turns over and sounds like it really wants to start. I can smell gas when I get out of the car so Im assuming that it has gas. I did unplug the crank shaft sensor for 20 secs and that didnt help. I also tried to put it in netrual to start that didnt help.. the thing that I understand least is that it has run awesome for the last 1.5 years with no problem. no signs of problem.. oh wait my wife was driving down the road the other day and she said it sputtered only once and for a second would this have anything to do with it? what should I do

You may have a bigger problem than just a bad battery. these units are computer controlled for almost all engine operations. Your best bet would be to get it to a mechanic and have them put it on a scanner to check for trouble codes. Also check your local dealership for any TSB's ( Technical Service Bulletins) on a no start problem. There my be a recall on it! Also you should never have to pump the gas pedel in your unit as it is fuel injected, the injectors are computer controlled and the "gas pedal" actually opens a butterfly valve to let more air in. At the same point is a TPS (throttle postion sensor) that tells the computer how much fuel is needed compared to how far the pedel is depressed. Don't think this solved your problem but on newer vehicles trouble shooting is sometimes best left to the pros!

GOOD LUCK. ALSO YOU CAN GO TO AUTOZONE AND THEY WILL PUT THEIR SCANNER ON IT TO CHECK FOR TROUBLE CODES IF YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. IT IS FREE IN MY TOWN. |

i agree with above, get someone to check the computer sensors. The dead battery/flooding thing sounds like a computer malfunction.
