92 LE or 92 Saturn SL2?

hey i've raced my best friend a couple times...hes got a 1992 Saturn SL2 automatic with DOHC and a factory performance chip...every time we race, i beat him off da line but around 40 mph he takes off on me n leaves me in da dust...do u think its just bcuz my engine has lost power over the years? we both have custom intake and exhausts, and he just had his engine rebuilt, but b4 he rebuilt his engine, he would still beat me...i've always beaten him off the line tho
